Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 30th June - Canberra Dyno Day

    original thread: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3205335&page=1

A good majority of Sydney people are heading down to Canberra for this! Some the night before and a lot on the day itself.

June 30, we are looking to hold a Dyno Day at Autotech Services in Fyshwick. Peter at Autotech has been helping run these days for quite sometime and with great success.

Lo and behold, Pete is the GIAC dealer in Canberra. Lucas will be coming up to speed things up and do some speed flashing

BBQ will be provided. Drinks as well, but we'll need a hand running this, so volunteers are welcome

Post up if you're interested. We're looking at around $40-$50 a car. That includes run with wideband AFR reading and other things that each person can discuss with Peter.

you know floody,,,this isnt just my opinion, but many here.the majority of members ,dont like to feel pressured into doing things.so ,the harder you push, the less people will come.also, with the recent events ,the chip battle--its left a nasty taste in many peoples mouths.nobody wants to be a guinea pig,or to be involved in comparisons.alot of members do their own dynos, without the hassle or stress.make it so,there is not these constrictions, and people will come.continue like this and nobody will come.
everyone knows ,im not that interested in dynos or drags, organise a track day,and ill be there rain, hail or shine!
I dont want to start a arguement over this, its nothing personal.
im busy that weekend,so have a good time guys.

A big bunch of people here complained cause we didn't invite VWW peeps to our events, and now we do and know one turns up. All I'm saying is we are doing as you asked, so I would have thought you guys would have started coming otherwise what was the point of the complaint? I understand people have other things on for weekends, so what's to say none of you would have been able to make it to the events that we previously didn't post.

I've made a 2-3 great friends from this site and a whole bunch from Vortex. Lets leave it at that, come, don't come. It doesn't really have anything to do with if you like drags or dyno's or not, it's about participating in the community. Turn up, say hi, have a laugh, enjoy some dubs and meet some new people. Know one is forcing people to compete in these events.

I make it to the drags but I couldn't drag due to other things, I just sat there watched, taped and talked to a few people. On this cruise no one has to dyno there car.

You can just go down for the drive thats what I am doing. Its good to have a drive, and in a way its a way to bridge some divisions between the two forums.

I personally cant think of many things more boring than standing round in a dirty workshop winking on about whos chip is better.

I`d rather go for a drive and a chat with some interesting people.

Two cruises within a month of each other, exactly what you ask for. So which is it, do you want a cruise or as long as it's no more then XXXkm? We actually were at the pub in berry for bout 2 hours chatting and waiting for food.

This forum craps on about the VW community yet don't seem to want to participate in it unless it's an event organised by this forum. Pierre and Steve, I'm serious, why bother. They ask to be included and told about events, and then whinge that the events aren't good enough.

We are happy to come to a cruise, but Canberra is a bit far for those of us with kids. Thats 5 hours driving. With petrol the way it is, thats a bit of money too.

If you want to INVITE people here to one of your events, feel free to do so. BUT its only an invite, we are under no obligation to go. Thats all we do on Vortex, we say www.watercooled are going for a cruise, come if you like. Thats it.
                      I have to disagree..

we arent going there to compare chips, just going for a gtg/bbq/cruise and throw the cars on the dyno for the sake of it realistically. i know what mine pulls but doesnt hurt to what car you have from mk1 golf to a audi s4 to throw it on and see where your at! no body really cares in the end, people who have done big mods KNOW their power and KNOW they are quicker then others and still then love to see the older cars on the dynos too. come to a track day, wont come to the drags or the dyno where could find the demons which could slow you down or break you down on the track later on? .. odd!

petrol to canberra, you have to be kidding me dude.. its not that expensive and with over a month's notice im sure you can put together enough money to come as well.

you are right tho it is an invitation with no obligation to come what so ever, and they were other big cruises which have been organised (eg. the previous one through wisemans ferry, for those who did turn up know it was a fantastic bbq/drive)

the drive to canberra will be a nice easy going drive as well as a night out down there too probably the night before for who are there the previous day before the gtg.

its a useless arguement as theres both rights and wrongs from both sides here but floody has one point with invitation and no attendance.

but as i said and mentioned its no obligation but another good gtg that will be missed by some who cant make it!

Canberra is probably an easy cruise in a fancy Mk4, but in a Mk1 its a diferent kettle of fish. How about you drive my car down and I`ll drive yours??

to be honest i wouldnt mind drivin the mk1 at all! if i had the space id get one and drive that around too .. you drive my car? that'd be the day lol.

but regarding driving that, wouldnt bother me dude! if you dont like how it drives, improve it or change cars! i love the oldskool cars lol

Yeah I love the oldskool too mate, but its very noisy, uncomfortable and tiring to drive long distances on the highway. No power steer, no aircon.

You arrive at your destination worn and battered, rather than cossetted like in a Mk4. Thats why not many are daily drivers.

There is also the possibility of breaking an old componant, of which there are many and a tow home from Canberra does not appeal to me.

Add that to the fact that dyno figures wont reflect the way an early light car will compare to a heavier modern beasty, particularly driven through the twisty bits and I`m sure you can understand my reluctance to attempt an epic trek to the ACT.

I`d rather go on a cruise with less driving and more looking and chatting. It also takes up less time than a cruise to Canberra and I have the family to consider and weekends are precious.

Have fun and I`ll see you at the next cruise.

                              Dyno day

I'll be there , bringing my two wives along for the ride .

Anyway Ive organised multiple drag days and dyno days AT MY OWN EXPENSE ! I beleive in participating and organising any events that promote the whole VW/Audi scene to everyone , cruises dont interest me , and BBQ's at the workshop are more common than all cruises and gtg's Aus wide . If you dont have a car ready for the drags / dyno days then you dont have to run them . I dont force anyone to run a car at the drags , I do encourage everyone and put everyones car ahead of mine in terms of preperation for the actual event .
