  • WA Possible mid-semester South West Tour feeler..

    Hey everyone,

German car day was so much fun, i've been thinking it would be a great idea to go on an organized tour of the south west in the mid semester break a few months from now.

Here is the deal, i have access to a property in Augusta with number of bunks and mattresses also space on the property large enough to park many cars/ setup a little camping community there is also a camping ground very close by if there is a really large interest in this idea.

i was thinking that if we all perhaps left on a saturday morning/friday afternoon we could have a nice run south via some of the most amazing roads on this side if the country, wine tasting in the Margaret River/Great Southern regions and for those who are interested, fishing in the southern ocean is also a possibility.

I guess all in all probably 8-10 people could be lodged on the property, if some bring tents. Would be expected to bring bedding i.e pillow/case, quilts/bags etc and anything else they might need for a 3 day trip.

I'll be happy to show people around, but once down there you would all be free to go about what ever activities you wish, i ask only that the local community, area and property are respected which I suppose goes without saying.

I have already started to plan a route which i know well, and can sort out maps so when we are cruising everyone will know where we are heading and the various stop points where stragglers can catch up, i.e anyone in mk1s

If you have interest, questions or anything to add, please chime in.

I'm down for it... I'd need decent notice though if it is a Friday afternoon as unfortuntely I don't get mid semester breaks from work (how sweet it would be if I did) so need to sort out leave and get someone to cover my role at work.

Keen to see some more as the plans develop.

The dates would either be the 24th-26th September or the 1st-3rd October depending on what is best for everybody, but i am easy.

If we can leave on a friday this would be best, however for anyone who is interested but cant cut friday work, I can arrange for a second guide to take you down or alternatively a pack with maps and local info to get you down there on the saturday.

As we could be covering anywhere up to 1100kms in one weekend, it would be a good idea for everyone to get a good wheel alignment/ check tyres pressures/ basic service etc. Also for those who run out of fuel quickly a small jerry can of emergency fuel would be a great idea especially if you run a particular fuel type.

              Itinerary

              Friday ~350kms,

Meet mid morning at the usual spot (DNA Tower Kings Park)
Drive south via the secret route to be handed out at the meeting spot.
Stopping at three separate catch up points,
The first a snack stop, the second a fuel stop for those of us with thirsty engines and the third, a rest stop and photo opportunity.
Arrive at property, setup camp and enjoy... Drinks, BBQ, Music, Swimming, whatever....

A pic of the locale and the weapon!

              Saturday ~ 150kms

              If weather permits,
Snorkling/Diving if you bring your own gear.
              Fishing plently of gear available.
Local cruise and a lunch at a local winery or brewery and back again.
              Relaxing and probably more drinking.

Sunday ~400-550kms (depending on how people feel)

A drive through some of the South West's best roads.
Stopping at 4 major rest points,
Plenty of photo opportunities with some of the most diverse and beautiful scenery in WA.
Wine tasting at Voyager Est, Lenton Brae, Pierro, Leeuwin Est and many more possible.
Lunch at a similar venue, aim to arrive back to perth by 8pm sunday latest.

There are plenty of opportunities to stretch your cars legs and enjoy your slice of european automotive excellence in a safe and legal manner!

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask here or PM me.

              Cheers, Pedro

Great Dan, i hope your mk1 is back up and running then If not, you can rock mine, we all missed you at German Car day...

Also to answer Back Door, i would factor in ~$150 for fuel and ~$150 for food + whatever $ for Alcohol or other purchases you may want to make, the venue itself is not of charge, although everyone will be expected to pull their weight and help out wherever possible.

If you are not into wine, we wont expect you to hang around and watch us all tasting etc the same can be said about fishing and the rest, you are free to go on your own adventures while down there. I do think though that it would be the best idea, if I make up a list of names, cars and phone numbers incase anyone gets lost or needs help..

Edit* Just figured out that the 27th of september is a public holiday, so there is a possibility of a fourth day.

                  Cheers, Pedro

                        Alright, stoked....

Seems like everybody is interested so I'm gonna lock in the weekend of Sept (24th-26th and possibly the 27th), If people who are definitely keen could PM me so i can lock in a list of guests so we can make sure there is no overbooking. Please include your car type and mobile phone number.

I will let everyone know once the house is full up and tent land is available. after everything is full up i will advise that anymore people wanting to join must find an alternative place to sleep, best would be the camping ground with in walking distance of the property.

                        Thanks Guys cant wait

                        First come best dressed!!!
