Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • QLD Willowbank Test'n'Tune - Wednesday July 14th

A few of us are heading out to the drags next Wednesday night at Willowbank, and thought I may as well post it up here in case anyone else wants to have a run or just spectate, like myself.

Cost is $40 to race, which admits the entrant and one passenger. Spectators $20 adults, $18 students with ID.

    Requirements are:
    • helmet to AS1698 standard
    • long sleeve shirt
    • long pants
    • covered shoes & socks

Gates open at 5.30pm and runs commence at 6pm.

    Cheers,

    Jon

I may be keen. Getting a new clutch in a couple of weeks so why not make the most of what's left!

Might as well use an old clutch as opposed to a new one. Either way, you'll need a new one after you "test" it.

For sure use your old clutch. I've heard too many horror stories about R32 clutches and drag strip. If you're going to be any kind aggressive on the launch you will have a very very good chance of breaking the clutch. Ignore this warning at your peril.
Maca if he doesn't read this can you tell him please.

ha thanks, but its already screwed. Like I said before, if i drop the clutch it just stays down and revs and goes now where...
So its going to be interesting.

sounds more like a waste of time for quite a risk (to be brutally honest). You risk ruining it to a point where the car isn't drivable. What's a tow truck worth from Willowbank? If it's already slipping on the street, it'll be very frustrating on the strip and only lead to disappointment.

                but each to their own.

Just to reiterate what Sean said - seriously, if it's slipping now DO NOT take it on the strip! I have a feeling the combined grip of AWD and the sticky track, will end in disaster...

Oh and $200+ for a flatbed ride back to Brisbane...

I'd possibly be interested in having a look but getting there on time would be impossible for me. Have fun guys. Maca will you be giving the Jetta a run?

hehe my clutch is twitchy at the moment too, but I don't have the cashola to replace it, so it's getting special treatment for a while. Ignore my activities in the wet the other night...

I should be able to make it out to spectate (didn't really look at the dates just relied on our last conversation when you talking about it Jon).

Dmac, even with a new clutch I wouldn't be taking it to the strip for full on launches. If you do babying it off the line will be where it's at in which case your time won't be that great. Basically if you don't break traction at launch you will destroy a clutch. Have a chat to Guy about it, he told me he knows of at five that did their clutches at the strip.

                        Cheers,

take it to the QR sprints if you want to unleash it. You're less likely to ruin a clutch, but will give your tires a work out. Next one is late july.
