Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

IMO, Brisbane should be split up in 4 hypothetical sectors, as opposed to north and south. E.g. Birkdale is far east Brisbane but it's still considered north (and is in fact more north than the actual "north of the river" suburbs).

I think we'll all agree that the North side is de best side.

By this I mean north side of the river too. I went to the south side the other day, interesting experience.

Brisbane is a big place north, south, west is a big distance, especially when u finish work late, head home to the south. The last thing you want to do is drive all the way to the north for a monthly meet. So for all other groups on north Brisbane, Sun Shine or Gold Coast, go ahead and make your own monthly meet and one day will join forces for a Sunday cruise and it would be easy to organise. As for me, I'll put my hand up and say I'll start a south side monthly meet at Oxley hotel, huge car park. I also have big plans, as to make this big so I'll start new page for monthly meets.

Good idea, but not enough people are interested, or have the time. The latest JDM monthly meet in Bris saw 60+ cars I think, now that's a turnout. If this was a Euro cars forum then we'd have more people. Wish there was a good Euro forum for Aus..

Oh for God's sake, we all have cars that we love to drive, so who cares if we have to drive from one side of Brisbane to the other.

Well lucky for me, I'm New Farm, so being central, I can be any "side" I want.

Ohh puhh-lease. The southside is only as bad as you think it is. I grew up there and it's a FINE place.

I have wanted to come along to one of these meets for a while, they always have good numbers. I just don't know anyone, it could be weird.

It's a JDM meet of course it's going to be weird.

I'm still laughing at the whole idea that Brissie is a big place comments. You can get from Parkinson which is pretty much the southernmost suburb of Brisbane to Boondall takes just over 40 minutes when you're not in peak hour traffic. That is not a big city.
Oh and for southside meets, to meet at the Oxley Tavern takes just as long for me to get to as it does to get into the city nearly.
As it stands the scene and interest in these things isn't enough and just isn't worth the trouble unfortunately.

                          Cheers,

I may be guessing wildly here, Trent, but I suspect you're not a native of Brisbane, nor do you do much cross city driving (judging by your comments)
Leaving home at Jindalee (inner west) at 0530 in the morning, it takes approx 45 mins to reach work at Virginia (semi inner north east - next to Boondall)
Coming home, leaving work at 1830, it takes nearly an hour.
With respect, if your not interested in "these things" as you say, then dont bother. Some of the many dubbers on the south and west sides (and the dark side too if they wish to participate) may find enjoyment in meeting people of common likes eg dubs
I'm 5 minutes from Oxley pub so will endeavor to meet there if something is arranged and Im not working (shift worker!)
                                Regards to all,
                                Brian
