SE Qld Drive Day #3 - The biggest EVER!!!

The general concensus seems to be telling me...
3rd of June
Ok, now we have a date to work towards. Shaneth is working on plotting the route as we speak, and he will be posting up some preliminary maps once we have sorted the details out, so stay tuned for that, we'll need your input on the final route.
Next important question is -
Do we have lunch at -
(a) Kingscliff BBQ area by the beach
(b) Historic Tumbulgum pub on the banks of the Tweed River
?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????
It has been suggested to me that I'm biting off more than I can chew with the BBQ, however i have been offered some assistance with regards to food preparation and as such I don't mind if we get DEFINITE numbers. There is a little bit of time consumed in cooking the food once we arrive, and that may fill the day out more, but it will give us a chance to really mill about and get to know one another well instead of being seated at a table...
Tumbulgum pub is an attractive hotel on the banks of the river, and a great spot for a feed. We would have stricter time constraints if we went this way, as we'd have to arrive at the pub within lunch hours, and we may have to book. Probably not the better social option of the two, parking is limited, but food will be every man for himself...
Have a think, tell me what you reckon. I am always open to suggestion as well...
Cheers!!!

Please some input from some Brisbanites here, as we need a central meeting place for all our SEQ crew...

What about the top of Mt Coottha?
Also my vote would be for the pub....if the timing works. Happy to do a BBQ but bringing my own meat etc....esky plus ice......gets a bit messy.
I'll just go with the flow of what the group decides.
We could still do a beach stop for a drink and photo's.
We should take some video this time and post it for all the southeners to see what they missed.

I explained about the BBQ to avoid the mucking around I'd buy the meat and stuff, and pick it up on the way through, and everyone could fix me up for their part of the expense on the day. Much easier than mucking around with our own individual meat, drinks etc...Canadian dubs coming to VWwA soon

The run maps!!!
Thanks to Shaneth, we have some maps to check out and see what everyone thinks...
MAP 1 - Brisbane (Milton) to Mt Tambourine
62.07 Kms (44 mins)

MAP 2 - Mt Tambourine to Kingscliff (via Springbrook & Murwillumbah)
119.41 Kms (1 hr 39 mins)

MAP 3 - Kingscliff to Brisbane (Milton)
116.18 Kms (1 hr 21 mins)

Ok guys, I hope this helps. These maps have left out NONE of the good roads, and it will be a fun, windy, challenging drive. With some good stops, photos and good food, it should be a fantastic day!
Shaneth and I are hoping to do a test run next Friday arvo, so we will check out stopping sites, photo opportunities, and of course time the run, so we know exactly how long it should take.
I hope it's not too long a drive for anyone. I think it's just right, and a great way to spend half a day
Cheers!!!

I am so far in i am comming back out again....
Can't Wait!!!! I have done this exact run a couple of times and you have picked the best route with no one way stops etc etc... The roads comming into mullimbah (sp?) have some nice long sweeping bends (some with no speed limit hehehe!!) but can get a little narrow! The view comming down the back of Lamington National Park into tweed valley where you can see mt warning is great

I used to drive this road in my XR8, and while the torque was great for climbing the hills and powering out of corners, even with the Ford Motorsport suspension set up, you really have to work the car through corners, and theres a big difference between throwing a big, heavy, lumbering 1.6 tonne lump of steel around, and nipping around in a small, agile car...
