Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • QLD SE Qld Drive Day #3 - The biggest EVER!!!

Well South East Queensland, we're a bunch of slackers

I'm seeing Sydney and Melbourne cruises going off every second weekend just about, and It's been months since our last...

As most of you know, I missed the last cruise, for a good reason, but I'm trying to be optimistic and say I'll make number 3...

Now we have got some of the best driving roads in Australia around our part of the world, and so far we have done -
    1) Brisbane northwards towards Sunnie Coast Hinterland (I think...)
    2) The mountains (Nebo, Glorious) out to Wivenhoe and in to Mt Mee

The third drive will be the awesome roads from Bris Vegas over Mt Tambourine then out past Springbrook, Natural Arch, down into the Numimbah Valley, along the Tweed Valley Way and back on the highway after a big lunch of fish and chips by the river in Chinderah (near Kingscliff)...

That pretty much covers the best roads south of Brisbane, and should be an ABSOLUTE HOOT!!! Of course I'm hoping that this will be by far the biggest drive day yet, because we now have more SEQ members than ever before, and hopefully we can get some of the older members on the cruise as well. I'm still hangin out to see DOHC Dave's lil' monster, Bombsquad's Mk3, any one of the 50 million Pog GTI's in SEQ, and of course KI11Z (Alex's) Brembo equipped Jolf... So hoping to get everyone together.

It should be a good long hard day of driving, topped off by a great feed of fish and chips in a fantastic location by the river...

We now have a date, a detailed map/route that we're all happy with, and we're hoping for at the very least 25 cars!!! If we get more than 25 to turn up we'll be setting the record for biggest cruise in VWW history!!! GO SE QUEENSLANDERS!!!

Currently, the date is 3rd June, subject to everyone's avaliability of course...

Detailed maps can be found on page 4, post #40...

I've got an interest list below, so we can all monitor who is interested, and how many cars we have -

    Me! Pick me!!

Haven't done much driving down around that area and it sounds like it would be a great day.

    Cheers,
    Dave

You should chat to Shaneth who organised the last drive day. The distance in that one was about as far as I'd want to go in one day.
Too short is no good but too long becomes a drag (might just be me )

A few scheduled stops for drinks and talking is good too. Preferably in scenic locations for photo's.

BBQ lunch sounds good. How do you propose to make that work?

Start location if possible needs to be convenient for people coming from all over SEQ.

          I'm looking forward to it.

If the route ends up being too far we can cut out Mt Tambourine, which should make the distance just perfect. Like I said, I'm just throwing it up in the air...

With respect to the date, if 'things' stay the way they are at the moment, any given Sunday is fine with me. I was hoping people might make suggestions, and we can go from there...

Good response guys. I hope we can give those "Keen-as-mustard" folks down there in Sydney a run for their money with a big cruise. It's a fantastically scenic route for those who haven't driven it, with plenty of photo opportunities for us to show off our cars and stop for a chat. Should be a great day.

            Cheers!
            John

Start location will be probably central Brisbane so everyone is equally involved. Again, open to suggestions on that one, as I only know the North side and Mt Gravatt...

With regards to the BBQ lunch, I live only 5 mins away from the beach at Kingscliff, so if people chip in on the day, I'm sure I could provide meat, bread and drinks and pick them up on the way down to the beach. Just a thought, but it might work...

              Ideas guys?

I think, John might have Jenny & Myself along for the drive & even try to help out.
Timing is a big thing here with me as I'm entered in the NSW Dutton & have a few things on my plate in the upcoming month ahead, but we will see.
