Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • QLD Advanced Driving Course

    Hi All

I am keen to do an advanced driving course and thanks to a recent post i know of these gays http://drivegti.com/

They run out of Mount Cotton and use http://www.sdt.com.au/

I spoke to them yesterday and it sounds like they need the numbers before they can do it so i could either wait or just do it through SDT.

I thought i would see if anyone else was interested and go back to them with numbers. I am thinking a weekend day mid to end of next month.

The price should be around $270 and is a full day of mostly practical driving.

    Any takers?

I've done a few driving courses and skid pan days with SDT, great bunch of blokes.

I did the advanced track day course out at Warwick with them. Whilst track time wasn't high as they are quite one-on-one, they do have some very experienced drivers that will sit in the car with you and assist with lines, braking technique, car behaviour on the limit and maximising corner speeds. A good course for those that are new to track days. If you're not looking at dong track days, whilst the advanced track day course would be fun, you really need to hit the track on your own to start applying/trying some the things you've learnt.

If you're doing these, also check out the Queensland Raceway website for sprint days, best fun you'll have in a car on your own.

Hmm, this does sound very interesting. I'd be pretty keen to do it if it was towards the end of april

So we get to use their supplied vehicles if attending or have to take our own?

        Is there any prerequisites?

My mate and I may be up for this.

From what i can gather you do most of it in your own car but they do have cars that you do some of the activities in. I will ask them for more details when i call next.

As for prerequisites they suggest that you have done a defensive driving course but as far as i know it is only a suggestion.

Also, for those precious about being insured on the track. As these are driving courses and not track days, your are generally covered, at least with all the larger insurance companies.

It's best to use your own car which makes it all the more relevant.

I was going to pay for my (step) son to do this course when he got his licence as I did one back at Lakeside when I was 18. Then his older sister decided she wanted to do it. I thought my wife would benefit from doing it and in the end I decided a refresher course wouldn't hurt me either.

So we all did it together which hit my wallet fairly hard. However it is worth every cent and in my opinion it should be compulsory for every one with a licence. Even if it saves you from one accident (or worse) than is a cheap day out in anyones language.

                    I would highly recommend it.
