Oh ok, low 13s sounds a lot better considering the mods.

The engine has been strengthened but its still only running a K04 Turbo, FMIC, Exhaust, HPFP, Custom GIAC tune. Times should be comparable to what a stage 2 Pirelli GTI is capable of.

Its a shame that Hongs car was turned away cos he is running the bigger turbo.

How come didn't he make it?

Did he turn up later past the car cutoff?

Dom did ring me during the night & gave me some updates as to what was going on with Tony's GTI & by the looks of the MPH, the car is making very good power. I think its best was 112mph too!

But as you said to me Tim the other night which I won't forget & have been trying to say for donkey years!

Going to the drags puts everything into perspective! VW's are still slow! hahaha

He was the first car to be turned away at 4:30. You gotta get there pretty early to get a run it seems! Tony was there by 3 or something crazy.

hahah yeah seems that every second car is running 12s these days. Its a lot different from when I used to go regularly years ago and a 12 sec car would turn heads.

A mate of mine went in his ZX, he rocked up at like 4:30 and got turned away. apparently they opened the gates at 3 or something and were full up at 4:30. which is pretty sh*t for the blokes who trailed cars from all over vic to run!

I know! Man if you aint running 130mph + no one cares. There was an all motor Civic runing 12's too.
I would recomend Heathcote, you get heaps more runs and the day runs a lot smoother.
And why would you strengthen a Mk5 engine to just run a K04?? Strap a GT35/40 to the bugger

Well if Calder got off there arses & done the street meets every Friday as they have done in the past, they wouldn't have the massive turnout or backlog of cars trying to get in once a month!

What would you rather? Have a 200 car cutoff, pot luck at getting in & actually get some runs in, or open the flood gates & let everyone in & maybe "only if your lucky get one run in"? Remember these nights aren't cheap either. My night cost me $150+ incl. entry, fuel, food, drinks, friends entry, tow car, trailer, parking etc & my was only a street car.

Imagine if you had a proper race/drag car. The cost would be $600+ easily.

I told Dom if he planned on going, to get there by at least 2.30 & he said they had a 200 car cutoff this time too.

The meet I went to was supposed to be a 250 car cut off & it got way out of hand! Nearly 300 cars!

I was there for a total of 5.30 hours & only got one run in, even if my car didn't break I wouldn't have got any more runs!

To top it off they guaranteed 3 runs to everyone! Alot of the people who turned up when I did only got one run too!

Heathcote for the win I say! Much more relaxed, organised & a better atmosphere I reckon.

Hopefully I'll get there early next year before Portland.

He decided to re-ring the engine due to excessive oil consumption I think. Whilst he was in there why not do the pistons and rods? The standard GTI engine is not as strong as the pirelli/ed30/S3 engine.

No point strapping on a big turbo & winding the boost up only to air rate the block within 5000K.

Then you have to try & find another engine which is more cost's involved.

Make perfect sense to me to make everything strong first.

Oh okay, that makes perfect sense, I am a big supporter of fitting stronger parts if there is labour involved to fix something else in the first place.

And just on Heathcote again, strongly recomend it over Calder! Cheaper, more relaxed (officials, atmosphere), more runs and the track seems to be better maintained.
I have ran 2 different cars at Heathcote and both days were fantastic and I will be back with the GTI once i find some 16's for the front

We should all go make a trip of it.
When do they run their meets? Would be a laugh i reckon

pffft...if i can run 17 in a stock engined, street trimmed n13 pulsar, you should be able to do better in a mk3! Don't be a pessimist! haha Hopefully, it runs 5 secs quicker next time out!
