Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    I also have some suggestions for watercooled catergories. some day soon there will be enough vehicles to expand the criterea, but for now it would be good to have something along these lines:

    * Best watercooled up to 1983 (Golf, Jetta, Scirocco, Passat, Polo)
    * Best watercooled 1984-1997 (Golf, Scirocco/Corrado, Jetta/Vento, Passat, Polo, etc)
    * Best watercooled 1998 on
    * Best watercooled coupe (Scirocco, Corrado) ???numbers???
    * Best watercooled van
    * Best Factory Performance watercooled (GT, GTI, VR6, G60, 16valve, R32, R36) - all years.
    * Best Modified Watrecooled (engine, interior, or body) - all years
    * Most original watercooled up to 1991
    * Best VAG Affiliate (Audi, Seat, Skoda, Porsche, NSU, etc)

    Obviously they would depend on numbers of valid cars.

    What you guys think???

      Show Categories

      I agree x3 but I'm sure any car show organiser would love to have 1000 categories, but each category means a trophy, which in turn means more costs to run the show and therefore the need to either charge entrants more at the gate, or get more sponsors.
      I'm sure everyone is aware that the WA show is all done voluntarily by the VW club members who do the best they can. To clarify the purpose of the show; it is to bring the Volkswagen community together and show off the range and flexibility of the marque to the public and admire one another's cars. It is not for a show for club members - that's why the judges are not members (after complaints 10 years ago). At last years show, 60% of the trophies were won by non members.
      If anybody thinks that it can be done better, then I can only suggest that feedback is given as soon after the event as possible, because it is a 6 month schedule to pull this event together. In fact the coordinator (not me), will develop a survey, so make sure you fill it in at this years show. Better still, I'm sure any non member would be more than welcomed if they were to get involved on the show committee to help organise the day next year.

      4 days out and the current forecast is for 30 degrees on the day .... purrrrrrrfect

        Yup. Cool.

        I'm not even sure that many of us would even care if there were no trophies.
        Just a mention and some sense of validity would be great.

        It'll be a sweet day anyway!

          By the way Rod, I'd be happy to volunteer to help organise next year's show!

          How should I sign up?

          I also have an idea or two to have 'vw people' judge the cars, without getting anyone's nose out of joint...

            2 Days to Polish

            I'll PM the details.

            2 day to go and the forecast is for 32 on Sunday after 37 both Friday & Saturday. Polish those cars in the shade and pack hats and plenty of sunscreen.

                    Ok guys, pre-meet details as follows:

                    8:30am at Leederville carpark, down the end of Oxford Street. Grab a takeaway coffee - should be someone open at that time - and have a chat etc.
                    Depart Leederville just after 9, allow 15-20 mins to get to Burswood.
                    Arrive 9:20 at venue & park up in convoy.

                    Given there is less space than last year, I don't want to leave it too late to arrive so as to make sure we all park in one area.

                    See you there!

                      Nah they didnt pack the hub centric rings needed to fit em. WW said they could fit em by hand without them, but if you get it even 1mm out then it vibrates like all get out. I'll leave it be until the bits arrive :\

                          Is anyone able to bring a video camera with them? (and a willing passenger to operate it safely of course!) It would be really nice to get some rolling footage of us leaving the carpark in convoy and going through the tunnel etc ...
