QLD Dave Mack Commemorative Cruise

All,

In memory of the recent passing of our fellow dubber and good mate Dave Mack, I would like to invite all members, family and friends of Dave on a Commemorative cruise on the 2nd of August 2009.

The cruise will start at the Yatala BP at 9:00am for a 9:30am departure. We will then proceed on a leisurely drive up to Mt Tamborine where we will all meet back up for a break and chat at the St Bernards Hotel.At 11:30am we will leave for Harrigan's Irish Pub at Calypso Bay (Jacob's Well), we should be there at around 12:30-01:00pm for lunch and to have a drink and raise our glasses to Dave.

The St Bernards Hotel is located at 101 Alpine Terrace Tamborine.

We will be having lunch at Harrigan's Irish Pub, Calypso Bay Marina Village, Harrigans Lanek Jacobs Well.

Dave's last VWWC cruise was similar to this one so I hope a month or so is enough time for everyone to lock in this date as it would be great to get a big turnout for this one.

I would also like to thank j0n_GTI and jmac for their help and input with the organisation of this cruise.
If you can let me know if you can attend (plus any passengers) that would be great as I will organise a table at the pub.

Edit: As per Guy's suggestion, Jimmy's seconding and discussion with Diane "Mack" it has been decided to make this cruise a little bit of a charity cruise as well. If all participants could make a gold coin donation (or more if you so wish) we will donate all proceeds to the Cancer Council of Australia.

I have organised with the Cancer Council for a receipt book to take with me so all donations received over $2 will be tax deductible.

A big thumbs up to Harding Performance for their generous donation. Let's all make sure we chip in and raise some good money for a very worthy cause. I will bring a list on the day to keep track of how much everyone donates.

Might be easiest if I start the "Donation" side of things.
We will donate $500 up front & will part match anything else donated by the public.
Also discount vouchers for all who donate to the cause as well.
Wish I could be there, but I'm sure you will all carry it off in the spirit it deserves.

I booked us in today at Harrigan's pub under the name Watercooled for a group of 30 at 1pm.
If anyone can't make lunch or if you would like to just come for lunch can you please let me know so I can keep track of numbers and add more if necessary.

As some may have noticed in the attendees list, Diane "Mack" will be attending the cruise with us on the 2nd. I have asked her permission to post up the emails which I invited her and responses.

Hi Diane,

Once again my deepest sympathy and condolences for your loss. Dave's service on Monday was very touching, it was nice to get to hear about Dave outside of the VW forum environment in which I knew him. I am sure he would be very proud of yourself, Kate and his brothers for the strength and love you showed him when you spoke.

The reason I am writing is that I would like to take this opportunity to ask for your blessing and invite you to attend the Volkswagen Watercooled Australia Dave Mack Commemorative Cruise on Sunday the 2nd of August. I have spoken with Jimmy and Jon (j0n_gti) from the forums and we have organised drive up through to Mt Tamborine and then out for lunch and a drink at Calypso Bay. It would be an honour to have you and any family and friends along for the drive.

Hi Trent

I personally would be honoured to attend the planned Commemorative Cruise on the 2nd of August and drive Dave's beloved POG in his memory along with you guys and/or girls and will extend an invitation to any family still in Brisbane at the time or friends who might like to come along. Please let me know when and where you would like us to meet for the cruise. You VW'ers were important part of his life and will be missing him too so I would like to extend my sympathy to you all in return.

I would also like to thank you all for your many kind words both in emails and on the VW forum which I have had printed out and will treasure always. We are really feeling the loss of this very special man deeply but sharing our many fond memories has been a help to us all since his passing and he will live on in the minds of all who cared for him.

Thankyou for your acceptance. It will mean a lot to us to have you attend.

There has been suggestion by Guy Harding and seconded by Jimmy for the drive to be a charitable one where members can make a donation to the cancer council or similar. I would like to ask if this is alright with you and if you have a specific charity to which Dave would've liked to donate to?

Also do you mind if I post up your email from below for the members to see?
