Thanks for great day everyone.
Good to meet you all. Congrats to our trophy winners.
I thought it's a bit rough that a '79 MK1 ends up being judged in the same class as a brand new MK5 with a chip in it. But I guess you've got to break up the divisions somehow.
What's nextPlenty of good weather ahead!

Hi Everyone,
Glad everyone had a good day. Thanks posting the pics.
I had to work so none of my 3 GTI's saw light today. Was really interested to meet a few more of you. What was even worse was that some of the VW's from the show were driving past my work on the way home!!
Will definatly be their with all 3 cars next year and they will all be polished to an inch of their lives. I want silverware!!!
Cheers,
Simon

Hi Peter, was great to meet you.
I think the mk5s were in the same class as the R32s and the Polos?
Not real sure how the classes were broken down. I didn't really look into the way the classes were set.
Still, I enjoyed the day.Par 6 Golf GTI. Coilovers, BBS CH Wheels, APR'd

The relevant (to us) classes were
ORIGINAL
Golf Mk 1 & 2
Golf Mk 3 & 4
Golf Mk 5
New water cooled
Old water cooled pre 2000
New Beetle
KOMBI camper all years
Transporter T4 and T5
MODIFIED
Golf
Modified Beetle 1958 Onwards
Modified Kombi 1968 Onwards
I can't claim mine's an original Mk1 when it's got an 1800 K-JET and it started life as a diesel, so that puts me up against brand new Mk5s with big stereos etc.
If you had a modified 1959 Beetle you were even worse off! You'd be up against IKON New beetles.
Modified type 3 and 4 (aircooled) got it pretty easy, they only span about 10 years max. Same with Karmann Ghia.
To be fair perhaps there was a weighting system to allow for the age of the cars, I'm not sure what the judging criteria was. It's a really tough job to work out how to break up the classes for these sorts of events.
Not that I'm too fussed, I had fun! I'd just like to be compared to similar cars. I can go and buy myself any trophy I please!
Who's gonna build the first Rat look Golf???
And where were all the other non-golf water pumpers for our cruise?
