Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Anyone interested in a defensive driving course

    Hi all,

I'm considering sending someone I know to do a defensive driving course, and will probably do it as well (I think it's about time I did another, and I also think it's only fair that I eat my own cake as well).

Anyone else interested in doing one of these? The two I'm considering at present are the Ian Luff "Drive to Survive" course (http://www.ianluff.com.au/drive_to_survive) or the Murcotts Defensive Driver Training Program Level 1 (http://www.murcotts.com.au/murcotts/...vinglevel1.sok).

I'd like to do a more advanced course down the track as well - both training centres require you to have done their first level course (as above) to move onto the higher level courses.
    Nothing to see here...

I went for Ian Luff's Defensive, Advance and Performance.
Heaps of fun, worth every single cent.

John Boston was my instructor for advance and performance...IMBA!!!!

you guys want a break down of events for the 3 stages?

Try Nationwide Defensive Driving at finlays.com.au
Peter Finlay has been doing driver training for 30 + years and operates out of Oran Park.
Must admit to bias here-I'm an Instructor with Peter.
          Cheers

I've been told by a mate that the Ian Luff driving courses are very good. I was seriously considering doing one when my Tig isn't quite so new and I'm willing to punish it a bit.

Any info you can give would probably be useful in determining which path we take!

Okay from my memory - I did it 2 years back in my civic.

Defensive (skid pan) - Threshold braking ...braking to steer away for objects (S-shaped)...

                              Advance (skid pan):
                              (1) Oversteer training
                              (2) Slalom
                              (3) Clover
                              (4) Some huge circle (skidpan)

                              Performance
1 instructor : 5 students track day at OP (helmet require)
Depends on your learning level and experience...i was taught rev matching properly (heel toe), late braking, left foot braking for turns
                              that doesn't require downshift.
CAMS test for those ppl interested.

That is all i could remember....

                              hope it helps

                              chock
