Sounds like an expensive repair on the tranny Loon. What a bugger. Bet your popular back home mate?

        Gaston Brought his sweet Mk1

Frank brought his 16v Mk2 and Edison came in his Diesel, the first Diesel to come on one of our cruises. Good Work Mik.

Sorry none of the pics came out of your cars guys.

It was Bloody Hot at this time.

        THEN This happened....

Auto transmission cooler had a pinhole in it AAARGH.

But a group effort later and we screwed a screw into the hole and some sealastic, should get me home??

THEN Gaston broke a wire off the starter on his Mk1 and Edison was there with the electrical repair kit! NICE

Then a couple of Push Starts for Edisons Diesel, to the accompanyment of heaps of black smoke and engine knock and he was away too.

I got about 8kms up the road and the auto was slipping something chronic, I pulled into the servo and this happenned :

It appears that the auto cooler must have ruptured on the inside too, as transmission fluid was circulating through the water channel and presumeably water through the auto.

Wasnt much I could do, we went home on a Tow Truck.

Wont be fixing the auto, will either convert to manual, or scrap it.

A good team effort from the guys, shame about the ****box VWs.

Is the mk3 16v the import or the vr6 conversion???

It was a VR6 with a stuffed motor and box, and the imported frontcut was short a couple of cylinders, so ended up as a GTI

Seems Sunday was indeed a day for wrestling vw gearboxes in Australia!

That Passat looks too good to scrap.

                        Thanks guys.
I poured 4L of dexron into it on Monday and flushed it out and changed the Oil cooler. It is currently working ok.
I am gonna drive it to Canberra today to get a new T4 engine, so fingers crossed.
I just want it to last a month so I can get all the bits together for the manual conversion, then I dont care if it breaks!
                        I`ll keep you posted.

Yes. I have returned triumphant with everything needed to repair the T4 and manualise the Passat.

Thanks to Peter at the CVWC Had a sweet drive of the 20v Caddy too PHEW

The Passat did pretty well, Cruise control set a 117 all the way. Did 10.3 L per 100 according to the MFA. Still too high for my liking, but at least it made it No speeding tickets thank God. Had to go today, as it is double demerits from tomorrow.

I`m going to the shed now, I may be some time!
