And so to the saga of my gearbox... it started clunking intermittently when I was selecting first about a fortnight ago. I heard it ticking as well a couple of times last week once in first so a quick trip on Friday to Brian resulted in a booking for Tuesday so they could look at it further. Sunday came and all was apparently well, I even tried loading up the clutch and might have accidentally let off some smoke at one turn :wasn't me: , both without any apparent problems ie clutch didn't slip and nothing felt like it was giving. It did catch in first a couple of times later on which Matty noticed as well. When we arrived at AHG I neatly reverse parked next to the others
Quick flog around AHG and still nothing felt different, yes I know it was a bit of a gamble but I figured whatever was going, was going to go anyway. Pulled up at the end and went to park, couldn't get into Reverse. Brute force applied and still no reverse, kept sliding to first instead. After a few pokes and prods looking around, got home ok. First was ticking again on the way home so I just changed up to 2nd earlier than usual.
Decided to take it straight to Quattros first thing Monday and leave it there in case it did breakdown somewhere. I had to push it out the driveway mind you! (Right as an Aston Martin convertible drove past, that would have been a nightmare come true if my car had rolled out into the street!)
They got the box out this afternoon and it appears the slave cylinder has been collapsing and a bit of broken washer has fallen into the box. That would explain the ticking I heard in first if it was catching on each rotation. Presumably said piece has now lodged itself against reverse which would be why I couldn't get it in at all after Sunday's outing.
They should be pulling the box apart tomorrow and hopefully R and 1st haven't been munched & it can be fixed up with a few new parts without having to buy a reconditioned box. Some of the prices I've seen for those are just rediculous!
i hope its just a slave cyl Geoff. I had that thing let go on a Vectra i drove in europe, on the way to Nurbergring. It costed 460 euros and another 70 to get the car towed! I guess it should be cheaper here coz i was in Serbia and the car had swiss plates so everyone thinks that i had lots of money, therefore i needed to be ripped off. Quattros are sensible on pricing so you should be fine.
U hope everything goes well
great looking outing fellas, great to see some Dubs in action!
Polo spec D, how do the hot tuning coilovers go?
VW: it aint just a car, its a way of life There are few things more satisfying in life than finding a solution to a problem and implementing it

Really really well and on the track they kept the pogo very flat and seed was maintained through the corners. And didnt have the anti roll bar on the hard setting either so there's a chance I could get the rear left or right wheel lifting in the corners
