Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Would like to know as well! I wanna get the chance to use my new camera

Also, if you want to go to both, would there be a special-priced two-day ticket? Edit - found it on the website - GA Two-Day: $90

The old man and I are going tomorrow (Boxing day)

If you want some sexy pics its definately the time to get them. Fuel runs at 5, 7 and 9 usually (Depends if there's an oil down or not etc). So you get some good night shots with the massive header flames etc etc. However, you'd want to be damn good with your camera to get them!

By the way.. Get down in the pits for a fire up of one of the fuel cars (Atleast one!) It's a must.

Hope to see you guys (and possibly girls??) there tomorrow!

If you're interested my mobile No. is 0408 433 982. I should be there at about 12 or a bit earlier.

Just got home after my first drag race meeting......unbelievable is the only word that comes to mind. Thanks Preeny for motiviating me to go and for showing me around and explaining how things worked.

I took a mate along and as it turned out we bumped into one of his business associates who is one of the head honchos of the Jim Read Team. We were invited into the team facility and got the full tour of the operation including one of the very well organised transporters and detailed explanation of the workings of a top fuel car and also got to meet Jim, Bruce and Phil Read.

I can only say it was an awesome experience, the earth shakes when these cars hit the throttle and the acceleration is unbelievable. If you didn't go today, go tomorrow it's well worthwhile.

                Cheers

Just got home, stayed up in Sydney last night. Really want to go back tonight again

Darren Morgan had a pretty big accident in his top fueler, right rear wheel came clear off the car at about the 100ft mark. It sent the car on its side, across into the opposite lane and straight into the concrete barrier. If it happened a second or so later he may not have been so lucky to walk away unhurt.

It was my first top fuel experience and omg was it one, couldn't stay that late so only saw the first round of qualifying though.

Most worrying thing about that was that the wheel covered the quarter mile though the car didn't. My heart was in my mouth as I watched it and hoped like hell it wouldn't end up in the crowd. Think that will be on tonights news if it wasn't last night.

Last run of the night was the best with much better conditions than earlier in the day. Hillary Will did a 5.493 and Phil Lamattina the quickest of the day at 4.773. Hillary looked to be off the throttle early and had done a 5.013 earlier after also backing off early, seems she has something in reserve. The real action will be today when elimination is on.

I was impressed at the inclusive nature of the sport, fans are able to get very close to the cars and teams in the pits, I'll be going again.

                      Cheers
