  • NSW [NSW] 12th October - Forum cruise to Morpeth

Originally started up and brought about by Neil (99gti), here are the final details for what is to happen on Sunday 12th October.

PRINTER-FRIENDLY ITINERARY IN PDF FORMAT AVAILABLE (thanks to Aaron for the host!)

    WHERE

The cruise will be to Morpeth (thanks to McCosker for the link).

    MEETING POINT

The main meeting point will be at the Park Avenue entrance to Parramatta Park. Meeting time is 10am and will be leaving ON TIME at 10:30am.

HOWEVER, best entrance point to Parramatta Park would be from Pitt St and parking just before the Park Ave exit - that section is a one-way and it may potentially cause havoc when we're trying to leave the place if we were parked above it.

Those around the city and in the Chatswood area can contact Mischa (0425327113) to travel in a convoy down to Parramatta Park.

Those in the south/south-west area can meet up with me (Raymond - 0405313804) at Liverpool Krispy Kremes on Orange Grove Road/Cumberland Hwy. Meet-up at Liverpool Krispy Kremes will be 9am and leaving no later than 9:30am.

    ITINERARY

We will be going through Darcy Road --> Cumberland Highway (#7) --> Old Windsor Road (#2). We will continue onto Windsor Road until we reach Putty Road (#69). This is a ~150km drive with no petrol stations stocking 98 octane in sight, so make sure you're stocked up on fuel before embarking on this. There are some pretty big petrol stations around the Kellyville area so maybe that's an ideal petrol stop.
We will also be making a quick rest stop at the Halfway House on Putty Road to let everyone catch up.
We will make a right-turn off Putty Road on to Mitchell Line of Road/Golden Hwy --> New England Hwy (#15). Finally, there will be a left turn onto Morpeth Road. Depending on what's planned, we might stop at the side of the road about 4km in (check Google Map link below) to meet up with some of the local dubbers so they'll lead us to the reserve/park area. We are aiming for an arrival time of around 2:00pm.

Click for Google Map route (thanks to Mischa for the link).

    POSSIBLE DESTINATIONS

schoona has very kindly put together for us a good number of places we can stop at :

    River Bank
    No BBQ facilities
Reasonable parking (I have no idea what the head count is, but it's a factor all the same)
    Amenities block
Maitland Triathlon on from 6am till 11am...they may all stick around though so may be crowded?

    Ray Lawler reserve
It's at the north east end of town.
    Electric BBQ
    A coule of park seats/covered.
    Toilet block
Again not sure of numbers, but parking would be tight. Photo ops

    Morpeth BC
    Good parking/facilities
I have never eaten there though so no idea what menu is like.

    Footy field
May be tight, can use BC parking aswell.
Would need to bring own BBQ (but you could do that for the river bank to)
    Sit in the grandstand

    River Royal Inn
Sits in a solitary position away from the "CBD".
Restaurant open Sunday for "Brunch". Doubt that extends to our time frame but we will see.

    Cafe/ Take Away
Plenty of small cafe/take-away shops scattered throughtout the main street, plus the commercial hotel. Get a feed there and drive down to the bank to eat or something?

My vote is the Ray Lawler Reserve. If people want to bring there own snags and tongs it suits them, they can cook while we get lunch from a cafe, back to the reserve to eat and chat....whatever from then...

    Your call now
Perhaps Neil already had a specific destination in mind? Whoever has his contact can possibly confirm this for us?

    FOOD/DRINKS/THINGS TO DO

BYO food and drinks. As schoona pointed out, we will definitely be stopping at a place where we can eat our own prepared lunches and most likely where we can start up a BBQ too. There should also be shops/cafes too for those who prefer buying.
It'd be appreciated if you brought enough to share around though! I usually bring along my home-cook stir fry noodles (usually a hit with you dubbers), so I suppose there will be enough for some that didn't bring food nor money haha.

    RETURN JOURNEY

Journey back will be a split affair (you don't have to leave with everyone else), but I think most of us will either go back through Old Pac or the Freeway.

      THE SMALL PRINT

This is a cruise and not a rally - please stick to the speed limit! If giving consideration to the safety of others and yourself isn't enough, Putty Road usually has a good number of cops patrolling around, especially over the weekends.

Depending if I can be bothered or not, I'll upload a printable copy of the itinerary. Whether or not I'm able to do this, PLEASE print a copy of the itinerary. Our cruises, sad to say, are usually very disorganised compared to other forum-organised cruises, and since we're shooting for a high number of attendees, I'm 99% sure that not everyone will be able to keep up, especially while we're still in the metro area. So PLEASE keep a copy of the itinerary in your car so if you/a group gets dropped behind, you'll still be able to reach Morpeth (hopefully). I'll print off a few copies; I don't have printer cartridges growing off trees

If there's anything else I missed out, let me know by PM so it won't clutter this thread.

No worries. Sure beats studying aye!

I'm in the process of making a PDF for the itinerary - I'll try and keep it to one page. We're all still unsure of the final destination. schoona's idea for Ray Lawler Reserve sounds good, and if I get more good responses for that, I'll finalise it up here and for the PDF.

you just like it cos it shares your name

we'll have a quick stop at the halfway house on putty road - no prizes for guessing how far along the putty it is. its a small petrol station but no premium so useless for us.

guys feel free to bring a few snags. ill pick up a massive pack of those generic ones so if you want something more fancy bring it yourself

Hahahahahaha...You bastards...I so want to join you, but I am stuck up here...It basicallt follows half of my intended routes....But going up the old Pacific Hwy, out to Cessnock, down the Putty, then up the Bells Line to Lithgow, then back to the city via the Great Western Hwy.
