I’m giving away (for $50) this used Volkswagen Racing cold-air intake, complete with clamps and hardware, plus 2 genuine foam filters in average condition—replacement filters can be purchased. If you want it, I’ll bring it up to Happy Laps. Thanks and carry on...

Thanks Paul for sorting today out.

Car ran well, clutch seemed strong with the new power levels.

See ya at the next one all!

Yeah thanks Paul for another good day.

I like to keep an open mind so I thought I'd try Machine's theory and put a few extra PSI in. I'm pretty sure the handling was worse and felt it float around a bit on some of the corners, the off camber ones especially. Maybe such a thing is not as noticable in an AWD?? Although I did have a passenger this time and I never have before so perhaps the extra 80kg or so was what I was noticing??

And remember to keep it pointed forwards everyone! 😂

If your getting Tyre screaming on turn in, I'd say your over pressure, I was fine until my TPMS showed 39/40 psi on the fronts, and then the screaming started and started washing wide.

I’m flattered that you’d have a go playing with pressures based on my experiences. Good on you!
It can be tricky applying someone else’s findings to your own car and tyres and there are so many confounding variables, like the ones you mention. In addition, “float” to you can mean something totally different to me. Without objective data, like lap times, G force, corner speeds, it’s all down to the feel coming through your butt. If it felt less grippy, than it was less grippy. Sorry for sounding like such a nerd there.

                    What tyres did you run?

I’m on Michelin PS4S and I ran cold pressures: 43 FL; 44 FR; 45 RL; 46 RR. Tyres felt amazing and I couldn’t feel anything like the sidewalls rolling over. I also didn’t feel any loss of grip, so I was quite happy.

If you’re not on R-compound slicks or semi-slicks, other things to consider are section width of tyre compared to wheel width and sidewall height or aspect ratio. If the tyres are bulging with high sidewalls, for instance (hypothetically) a 255/65R18 on 7” rims then I dare say that air pressures will play an enormous part in eliminating squirm!
Sorry I’m half-drunk and I’m not going back to proofread but I think I said a couple of smart things in there and I might’ve got my point across, but I’m sure Sean will chime in and pull me up on it...

P.S. Nice dig at the end

I remember Yokohama AD08R used to scream like banshees no matter what the pressure.

I have Bridgestone RE003s. I've found them to be a lot better than the Contis that came on the car. The Contis seemed to have soft sidewalls and I just chewed them up irrespective of pressures.

And don't ever apologize for getting nerdy with me. I'm an engineer so nerdy is what I do best! Haha.

Something just didn't feel quite right today. I know my brakes are getting tired, but the only thing that's different from every other time is the passenger and tyre pressure. Could also just be a reduced level of concentration because I had a passenger. Like you say the only thing I have to go off is the "feel" which is fairly unreliable.

I had those tyres before the Michelin PS4S, but never used them on track. They didn’t impress me much. I agree, though, they’re probably better than OE Continental.

You didn’t have your handbrake on, did you?

Make no mistake, 80kg up front on one side of the car will make a big difference. Especially if it can’t keep its mouth shut. LOL

So what did you set your pressures to, anyway? I’m curious to know the difference between last time and today.

I usually set them at 33-34 cold, today I ran 37 cold. What do you reckon the air temp inside the tyre would be after a few decent laps? Pressure rise is linear to temperature rise at a rate of about 1PSI per 5 degrees C. I filled them up last night and had only drove 200m up the road, so temp them was probably about 20 degrees. Tyre air temps on the track?? I'm guessing maybe60-70 degrees?

So the 37PSI cold becomes 45-50 on the track.

I had a 6-7psi increase mate. I didn't have time to click the temp button...

Not cold, Warm after driving out.
                                35/36 - 42/42
                                36/36 - 42/42

I'll get cold pressures tomorrow, I'm expecting another 2-3psi lower again Tbh.
Edit cold (9am @17°C) would rather have done at 6am and alot colder....
