Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Cayenne vs Cayenne

My wife and I are in the market for a 2nd hand wagon/suv under 25k. Our shortlist was down to the R36 and Q5. We have been looking for decent examples for a few weeks now and even checked out an R36 today but the owner turned out to be a muppet.

On our way home, we drove past a stunning 9PA Cayenne and the wife turns to me and says "how about one of those?!"

I don't know anything about Porsche and have only just started doing some reading on the Cayenne. The two models that are within budget for us are:
    2006 9PA 4.5 V8
    vs
    2007 9PA facelift 3.6 VR6

I was hoping someone here would share their experience with either. I like the idea of the VR6 because we've been having a serious look at the Passat, but have been reading that it struggles to pull the heavy Cayenne and to opt for the V8 instead.
Anyways, would love to hear your thoughts guys.

Price might be in your ballpark but check how much service and spares are i would think that it would be much more than a vw

Tho R36 can be a expensive beast to fix as well
2017 Golf Alltrack 135tdi All options
19 inch Brescia Wheels Golf R brakes front and rear
    Calipers painted Candy apple gold

      You're right, that's a very valid point.

It was always the plan to take it to an independent for service. The one I know is a VW/Audi specialist, but if or not they do Porsche is a question to ask (even if we end up with one with the VR6 in it)

As for parts, spares etc. I figure for a second hand car out of warranty to always have some coin set aside for that potential rainy day.

Speaking of, can anyone recommend a Porsche mechanic around Melbourne?
