Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

from anyone who read my e92 m3 posts you'll notice i'm not a fan of the tyre goo, hence the latest purchase...

test fit shows it clears the brakes well which i was a bit nervous about from an 18" wheel...

i slightly modified an oem bmw jack by adding a box section to fit inside the jacking points plus a ratchet adapter to wind up and down...

not the greatest photo but I had to put the competition wheels on quickly as I sold my old wheels and the new owner was on the way to collect...

the flush fit wheel spacers will also work with these wheels but I couldn't install them as they came with bolts for the E9X model. new bolts are now on the way, I had no idea that bmw changed the wheel bolt size for the F8X...

after putting it off for ages I decided to grow a pair and fit the new grilles...

I was putting I off because I read it can be tricky to access the clips. no exaggeration but it could not have been easier...

growing in confidence I tackled the side grilles next...

            also very easy...

confidence was high so I went for the rear badge replacement...

I liked the clean look and was tempted to leave it off all together but didn't want to loose the locating tape...

I held the new genuine bmw badge up and convinced myself to put it on or why did I spend the money on a new badge...

finally on and I think it was probably the right decision...

the final step was the exhaust tips, these were the hardest part but once the first one was off it went a lot quicker...

and all the chrome has now safely been removed...

              Congrats on the M4.

              Fantastic car.

Can't tell but is the car auto or manual?

Covid car prices are funny, seems like many used cars are a lot more expensive.

thanks mate, its the dct gearbox. my first one actually as i always swore by manual transmission but the dct / dsg are so quick these days...

i think i got lucky with the price as i bought at the beginning of COVID, prices appear to be going up at the moment...

                  Great buying.

I was looking at a MX5 ND at the start of the year, then Covid happen so held off on it. Now prices are higher! lol

My GTI is DSG, looking forward to go back yo manual.

Modern manual M cars are hard to come by.

Covid has played havoc with used car prices.

One day, I'll get a M2 Competition in manual. I predict it will be a future classic like the E46 M3 manual.

In the not so distance, you won't be able to buy a performance BMW with RWD, manual and is petrol powered.

Due to the horsepower wars, they will be all AWD and auto. Even the non full M model- M340i xDrive has stunning 0-100 performance, partly due to AWD and automatic transmission.

Hello ...I am curious to know why you added the box section to the jack ....did the top of the OEM jack not fit into jacking point ?

decided to show some love to the M4 recently...

not much fun getting this stuff off and all the time nervous about scratching the paint...

                      eventually all off...

not to everyones taste but I think it adds a bit more colour...

                      did the rear too...

                        was lots of fun...

thanks to qld bmw club for organising and to the photographer also...

it felt awesome at full noise...

and a family photo of its ugly cousin...

as I'm enjoying the m4 again I decided to fit the apple CarPlay unit I've had sitting in my cupboard for over 2 years, no joke...

It all went pretty easy apart from one of these white slide clips pinging off in to the abyss...

just leaving this here so I can remember what model unit I have if I need it in future...

it works so well, kicking myself I didn't install it years ago...

also replaced the cabin filter while I had the glovebox removed...
