Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

its kind of like putting m3 badges and hood and other bits and pieces on not an m3. The effort undeniably awesome. but each to their own i guess

In my opinion it's nothing like that at all. If it had r32 badges then yes. Although I see it no different to putting a Vento or bora front on a golf. Just styling preference also in building cars I find its easier to buy something cheaper (like a GTI would be) and spend money on it as you go and that's half of the fun!
I know if I had to buy my car as is including all the money I spent on it I wouldn't be able to.

This car is awesome! I'd rate it up there with any other mk4 I've seen in aus.

The gumtree ad says he is running a Pelequin Limited Slip Differential but there is no mention of rods.
Maybe that's why its only running 220kw. They may be running a rod safe tune. With the mods listed and the money apparently spent you would expect a bit more.

That is one of the issues of buying a car that someone else has built.

It is not. There are no badges on it that suggest it is anything other than what it is.

What the hell is OEM+ then ?

Nice toy, think it was closer to 40K a year ago.
Probably hold its value reasonably well, the big risk is the engine and they are not to expensive now days.

Shame its still FWD after all that work.

I remember this car from the Nationals for years. really nice example of a Modified mk4. I don't think it's immitating an r32.. its more like Using OEM upgrades ( bars ) that fit perfect instead of some ****ty aftermarket kit.

I find the r32 bars to look in proportion and tough.. not ricey and cheap.
Also an r32 stock will cost the same money as this - but just be a stock r32.
                    just my 2c,
