Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

well if you want a pristine perfect example there's many issues I guess, I bought a repairable off once, one of the front rails was just off. Got in touch with the local VIV inspection shop and asked them for a recommendation on a panel shop. They pointed me in the direction of a panel shop which had a 100% pass rate with them. The panel shop gave me a fair quote, put it on a rack to straighten it out and replaced all internal parts with with new, radiator and headlight support panels etc handed me a full report on repairs and procedures and passed first go no worries. Only issue is when you go to sell it expect to get below market value

      Certain things I'd be looking at;

      - If replacement wheel is genuine opposed to rep (18x7.5 V 18x
      - What suspension setup is in it now, previously Koni coils but right rear strut was torn in 1/2 & I have the spring @ home somewhere
      - Rear diff alignment (told there was issues with this by current owner)
      - Airbags replaced correctly?
      - front undertray & passenger guard liner look to be missing in pics, is running a full CAI... Not cool after recent rain!
      - Has the front bar been replaced? Fair bit of damage from when it was skull dragged back up embankment.
      - Cut an shut on drivers side apparently rough... (so I've heard)

        So is this thing running?
Part of me screams bargain and the other screams that I have no talent or tools for fixing anything that wrecked. If it is registered, wouldn't the shop who passed it have some responsibility to its being roadworthy / safe? Mismatched rims sounds potentially dangerous.

I guess if it were in good condition then this thread would be dead by now...

There is a really tidy black one on ebay with a blown engine for 9k. And this one has a good engine but dodgy body for around 9k.

Buy them both and make an awesome car for $18k........or just stop being a cheap skate and spend the extra 3-5k and get a decent one.

i asked him to send a photo of the right hand rear quarter. he didn't.
it's been relisted after people have come out to see it.. sounds like it isn't too flash of a repair...

There is now a pic of the rear 3/4 on ebay. All his other pics are sparkly and clean. this one is filthy.. Im not an expert but in this pic the boot doesnt look closed properly and the tail light seems to be sitting in further than it should.

tell tale signs of a shoddy repair if they cant even line up the tail lights correctly.

hmmm, i looked closer to the photos, look at the one where u can see in through the boot..

i wonder if those rear seats are just not clicked in properly or its mangled like that.

also its kind of all off balance.. the parcel shelf supports dont even sit right. meh someone offer him 8K for the trolls see what he says

I'd say seat isn't clipped in properly. The rear seats were all intact post accident & the hatch opened closed properly also. If it's crap now, it'll be due to poor alignment and as said a dodge cut & shut, which I've heard to be the case earlier in the peace.

FYI he paid $5,500 for the wreck...
