Yeah, well spotted 2000MN! Could it be that it got rear ended and the hatch pushed in and damaged the parcel shelf which then damaged the headrest?

Those rear centre head rests are terrible at blocking the vision out of your rear view mirror, wouldn't surprise me if it's kicking around somewhere like mine was! Could well of had its parcel shelf though bent up in a rear ender though...

well at $18k, spend the $250 and take it to a vw specialist to get it inspected thoroughly. im sure that $250 will go a long way to saving u thousands if it isnt a great example, alternatively, if it doesnt check out, then u can offer an even lower amount and use the savings to bring it back up to speed.
thats the conundrum of buying used cars, spend the money on a good example, or cheap out on a poor example to make it better?

My S3 hadn't been in an accident but was missing the rear centre headrest for the same reason. Blocked rear view far too much.

No rear headrest in the back of my R32. Took it out so the auto dimming mirror would work correctly. It's in a box somewhere. Must find it in case one day I part with the old girl.

If I were to look to buy this car I'd take it straight to a reliable VW workshop with permission of the owner. If he/she was adverse to this, I'd be walking away.

Oh god now that I see that! Woahhhh, stayyyy away :S
A damaged chassis will never drive properly again!
I have a sneaking suspicion that this was a repairable write and or the repair work conducted was terrible
Shame to see an .:R32 in such poor condition

I really hate the way people can determine a car by looking at some low-def pictures from an internet site which are usually taken at slightly odd angles.

I hope you never have to sell a car and have internet know-it-alls and bandwagon riders jumping on and talking about how bad something is.

If someone has been to see it, well and good. If not then you are just talking out of your collective arse.

It could be fine. It could have reversed into a bollard at a shopping centre at low speed and have been repaired. But oh no, to the great internet bandwagon it is clearly a repaired right off.

Hey mate I just said I had a sneaking suspicion as when I was trying to buy my car second hand I had 2 cases very similar to this that had been repairable write-off. So i'm not speaking from my arse just from previous experience.
I mean no disrespect to the owner/seller or anyone on this forum at all. I'm just saying it would definitely need a mechanics opinion and a history check.
And you're right, it could have had a low impact collision, although from the pictures on the internet it doesn't look like it was repaired flawlessly. Hell, I bought my car with multiple scratches and dings and stone chips in it! I had it checked by two mechanics and had it trucked up to Brisbane without seeing the car in person.
So i'm not jumping on bandwagons or against buying a car that is anything but perfect. It's just wise to go through proper channels before spending large amounts of money.
