For a car that schmick, i'd say 4.5-5K.
Even if the engine has 260xxxkms on it, if it has been well maintained, the engine will be still very strong.
There are a few stories of 8v's doing excess of 400xxxkms and still running like it was brand new!!!
Realistically, if you want a mk2, get one with a great body and an okay engine. The engine is always easier to replace than fixing the body.
I've seen a couple mk 2's that are very tidy go for that sort of money. Sure you can buy a ropey one for 2.5K, but it's so much better buying a well looked after and tidy car (especially mk 2's)
