Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Find Cheap Used & Second Hand Cars For Sale | Dandenong | Gumtree Classifieds

went and checked it out today with dave (stiggy) and josh (out2golf) which was a bit of fun.
good clean rust free body but door seals were rooted, various other bits and pieces were either not working or missing BUT had working electric sunroof, mirrors and power steering.
can go in to more detail if any one is interested, hes chasing $2k

Thanks for the info above. Sounds interesting...
Did you take the car for a drive and if so how was it?
And would it be far off a RWC?
    Thanks.

haha u beat me to it!!!
yeah gutters were the worst i've ever seen, obviously drivers seat, gear linkages needed changing, rear shocks were like a jumping castle, windshield had a F^#*$%^ huge scratched, massively cracked dash but MFA worked!!!
didn't take it for a drive but engine seemed pretty strong.
the guy said it wouldn't take much for a RWC, he's probably right, but all the bits and bobs could put everyone off for that price.

probably not doin it much justice, but a bit of TLC and money would keep one more on the roads
you should be able to beat him down.

From experience, does anyone know what the guaranteed base selling price for one of these MK2s is? Would this be snapped up if it was a $1000?

price obviously varies on condition, there isn't really a base price - can be anywhere from $0 - $15k.
ATM on carsales theres a G60 (dan's) and a VR6 conversion for $13500. but a good Oz GTI will be somewhere around $4-5k
if this one was $1000, it would be gone by now

Trouble with valuation sites is that try don't accurately take rarity and collectiveness into account. A mk2 will always be a classic and these sites undervalue them IMO.
