Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Somthing that just occurred to me looking at those first two cars, did MK2's come 'optional' with rear window demisters?
The things I pick up on...
MK2 - *Insert list of dealer purchased extra's/standard features here*
80 series - The MK2's BIG, Sooty, polar opposite...
      HAHAHA

That's the old lay flat wiper mod, i like it better sitting there, clearer vision out of the rear window

How would these things go as a daily?
If maintained appropriately, are they reliable or getting a bit too old?
Just thought I'd ask before taking the plunge..
            Cheers

Mine is a winter daily (cos air cond is not working)
I'd say every Mk2 new owner expect to spend 1 to 2K to sort a few things up, then it'll be a very reliable daily car. Yes they are old but not expensive to repair.

                ^ Thanks Red.
The initial purchase won't break the budget so I'll have some $$ up my sleeve to get it sorted if (when) needed.
                Appreciate the help

I've been dailying a MK2 on and off for the last 10 years through both English winters and Australian summers.

Keep on top of the maintenance, service it every now & then and don't expect the 'luxuries' of a modern car and you'll enjoy every journey

Also the auto appears to have no aerial (unless its an automatic one? hiding in the right fender....)
Actually, I can't see aerials on either of the first two cars?

It's just a telescopic aerial on the auto, pretty sure that's what they had as standard on the 8V, on the red one you can see he's got rid of it and bunged the hole up...
