Thanks Geez thats the type of stuff I really value hearing from owners. They really do look like a fun car especially if they are manual, but I spose if the right one came along that was auto I would may consider it.

I do have a minimal amout of tinkering experience but am hoping to get in about my Golf when I get one...By the looks of things they are easy enough to work around and there is enough info available out there.

Yes peedman I am considering that one into things, it is in canberra though it is'nt that far away really.

Think this one...although unrego'd and cv joint is an issue it could be good for me to get my heands dirty with.

something doesn't add up with that blue one.

it has side markers on it, (front and rear) and by the looks of it, no swage line trim. Indicates maybe it is a US/UK import??

also looks to have a fair bit of rust under the screen for a car of this vintage, i would be very thorough in checking the rest of the car for rust.

I'd be very cautious about that car, especially if he has no history on the car! and it's not reg'd.

hmm.., whole thing seems a bit hinky to me...:/

I was thinking that - non standard front seats, no trim (re-sparayed?) and different wheels than the usual

Why not just get the MK1 GTi convertible in WA for 2 grand? I'm tempted myself but not practical - get it chuck a bit of cash at it and you'll have a better car than the clipper
Current ride - MKVI GTI, Candy White, 4 door, Detroits, DSG, BT
Previous VW - MK 1 Golf Clipper Convertible - 1993 - gone and now called Linda
Previous VW - MK 1 Golf GTI 1983, Lhasa Green, Perrielli P's, euro front look, gone but not forgotten

          Ok thanks for that guys!

Will go check it out with my mate who knows more about cars than me....But I will be on my guard about it.

I would have to get it sent across and from what I read on here its blown a head gasket? I thought that is an expensive type of repair....

The 87 GTI in Canberra and the 2 grey Cabs posted on this page here in Victoria look most appealing...Time will tell!

From what I can gather the later stock mk1 Cabrios are a bit sluggish?
Ok went and checked this one out, it started no problem and drove well....Damn pitty its auto!

            Also checked out

            http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/...2746&silo=1011

This one had been lowered and for what ever reason the steering was ALOT harder than the other one...Also it took a while for it to stop when you put the brakes on, is this normal for these cars? I mean I noticed it a bit with the green one but nothing like this.

This is the second one here....does anyone see anything strange with this one? Apart from the bar running across it...It looks different to the first car I looked at which was meant to be the same year.

that engine bay looks exactly the same as mine (albeit, dirtier), except the strut brace ( aftermarket)

                Looked at another 1990 cab...

$5800 and it's manual...drove HEAPS better than the last one.

Steering was heaps better...brakes were alot more responsive.

Only thing was is when I went to test drive it it wouldn't start, had to jump start it. It had a new battery in it, could be the starter motor or alternator?? I can be a bit supersticious so
                I dunno about that!
