im still trying to understand how they work..... i know they came from race wheels, but with people building their own rs's etc... seems a little scary to put the weight of a car on those tiny little bolts that bolt the centers on, what with the way people are tuning their engines/ suspension for sustained aggressive driving

This is a BBS E50 from the early 70's with a flat barrel which has to be taken apart to mount and dismount the tire. Having all those little high tensile bolts torqued up hard that closely together surely counts for a lot of strength
Couldn't find a good pic but this is an SSR Formula Mesh lip.
And this is the mounting side of the center.

Don't look at a single bolt on it's own. Look at all of them as a whole and the leverage they have on them- You'll drag the tyre off the bead before you break the bolts. FYI, one single 6mm High Tensile 12.9 black bolt has enough tensile strength to suspend a family car..Last edited by Preen59; 13-09-2010, 08:25 PM.
