Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Thanks. I bought a brand new aftermarket one for $45 but it didn't have the slot for the key operation so I decided not to fit it.

It would have worked ok, but if it failed at any point, there would have been no way to manually enter the car like we have to now with the key.

So it was a RIGHT hand lock, but only to suit a LEFT hand drive model, where I presume the key barrel was on the left hand side instead. The seller on eBay wouldn't accept or understand what I was saying so I have it sitting here.

Does the aftermarket one you mention have the slot for the key? If so where did you buy it?

Here is a pic of the two, my OEM one is on the right and I've circled in red the part that was missing on the aftermarket one on the left:

I believe the one I have is correct, however I will verify that it is, tomorrow.
