I have one for a MK4 Golf - dont know if they are the same or not?? Someone on here would know.
If it fits, you can have it for $300 delivered to your door.

Get the information off the data sticker. It will be easier to id a replacement with that.

          yes its the 1.4 16v

the numbers on the unit are

          SD6V12
          Model No 1410
          R134a 6N0820803B
          Serial No 29900409045

8D01 stamped into the metal case ,not on the sticker

          hopefully thats all thats needed...

One question tho, the A/C system is gassed and not leaking but no cold air comes out, they suggested it was the TX valve so i had that replaced but no different so they are now saying its the control valve in the compressor. i know nothing about these systems so am completely in the dark.. the compressor turns on when ( clutch engages) but just keeps spinning, doesn't cut in and out suggesting it doesn't pressurise. this sound right? to have the compressor replaced ??

          thanks

with a set of gauges on they would have seen what the pressures were doing to work out if its the compressor or the TX valve. If the pressures on the gauges are static with the compressor clutch in itll more than likely be the compressor, ill have a look to see if i still have one mate
            Cheers
