  • TAS 16" x 7" alloys to suit a 2008 B6 Passat

I'm looking to buy a set of 5 wheels with or without tyres for a B6 Passat.

As long as they are the 5 x 112 and the correct offset, I'm in.

Need to be in perfect (or close to it) condition though, a big ask.
Would even consider a new set.

I'm not in love with the 18" wheels on my 2008 Passat and want to change for a more comfortable ride.
    Comfort is my paramount consideration.
Thanks, please PM or email me here and leave a contact phone number.

Thanks, hope there is someone out there with a set of wheels removed from a car which are gathering dust.

    cheers,
    richard

Will 16 in wheels clear your brakes ??
    Were the 18s factory ?

From what I glean information wise (and of course you can't trust the internet, even though Google is supposed to be my friend) 16" wheels were fitted to the B6.
Good point you make, can it be confirmed by anyone here?

The 18"s are factory, along with different shocks/struts according to the build sheet.

Chicago, pretty much the standard for the 18"s from the factory in 2008, I'm advised.

More importantly, what diameter brake rotors are they?

If they are the same as a Skoda Superb then 16" with a approx ET50 offset will fit.

Have you had a look at the tyre placard as to what it says? Also in the owners manual in the section about snow tyres / winter wheels?

It's unlikely you will find OEM 16x7. Your choices will be 16x6.5 approx ET48-52 which is pretty common in VW & Skoda. These will be fitted with 205/55x16 tyres. NB: the overall diameter of the tyre is ~13mm less than a 235/40r18 so your speedo will read "safer".

The other alternative is Audi rims. These will be 16x7.5". Offset varies from ET35 to ET52 but you want them around ET43-52. They'll probably poke out past the front guards a few mm if they are ET35. Most Audi rims are the same hub bore as VW/Skoda - 57.1. The later Audi rims are bigger but hub rings are only $20 a set off eBay. The later 16x7.5 usually come with 225/55r16 tyres. These are 17mm taller than 235/40r18 & will correct the speedo by 2.5-3.0 kph. This may or may not cause an issue depending on how wrong your speedo is at the moment. On my car it made the speedo accurate. 100kph on the speedo is 98kph actual. I'd suggest you check your speedo against a GPS to see how much wiggle room you have.

**16x7.5 Audi rims are mega-cheap if you trawl ebay & Audi Forums**

VW decals to cover up the Audi or Skoda badges. $5-$20 on Ebay.

I suggest you also have a good look at what tyre you intend to fit. Some have a quite compliant, soft riding sidewall; others are like bricks (Bridgestone RE050A springs to mind).

You will have trouble finding a set of 5 as VW group cars rarely have an alloy wheel as the spare.

I have a set of 16x7.5 ET51 Audi rims with 225/55r16 Michelin Primacy tyres. The tyres passed a rego inspection in July. They have about 2mm of tread before they hit the wear bars. You can have them for $200 if you want. freight would be about $120ish

              Thanks Brad,
Went outside to look for the tyre placard, couldn't find it initially. Thought it would be on the door or the A or B pillar...nope.
Looked in the owners manual, no joy in the tyre section. On the inside of the fuel filler cover!
The reason I was looking for 16 x 7 is the tyre size being 215/55/r16, closer to ideal. There seems a better range of tyres with more compliant sidewalls.

The VW dealer assures me there are about 5 different styles which are still available in 16" x 7". However, buying new from the dealer, is not in my plan, unfortunately.

Thanks for your offer on the Audi rims, they look in great condition. Not for me though.

Will just have to keep looking.

                16 x 6.5 would be good.

Have spent time trawling for information, appears that the 6.5" rims will be fine.
The interesting question for me, the later Audi rims, say 2010ish, will they have TPMS indents?

Thanks again Brad for all the info.

                cheers,
                richard

Anyone out there with a perfect set of 16 x 6.5" rims they would like to sell??

                  hi mate
would you like standard 17 inch from passat 4-emotion 2006-2007 (google it, very simular as early golf R32 but in 17)
they are geniune vw from passat 2007 4 emotion and i do have 5 of them
4 tyres are just roadworthy with continental 235/45/17, spare wheel with dunlop 235/45/17 tyre is brand new
all 5 wheels are in excellent condition,no damage or scratches
                  now important part

i had them on my passat for 3 years very very comfortable ride.; now on jetta (they look are bit bigger on jetta) and still very comfortable, and compare to my mate who had 225/40/18 big difference
yes thats correct only few early passats in 2006 came with 16 inch (very small number) eveyrthing else was 17..and now even bigger
16 are bit small for passat i saw recently passat, it had 205/55/16 but again thats my opinion-all jettas comes with that tyre size in 16 , even golfs are with 15-16

reason for sale, im selling jetta tyres needs soon replacement...and i had them for to long

very hard to find this ones in set of 5
if you interested sms me on my number

                      Hi Oli,
Thanks for your offer, I'm still looking for 16" rims.
I might consider 17" if I liked the style of the wheel and they were dead easy to clean, but otherwise I'm looking for 16".

From Brads suggestion, I did find an interesting Audi 16", however couldn't come up with 5 of them. And I'm not sure if the VW emblem wheel cap fits in, suspect these are later larger diameter ones. I understand from Brads suggestion in using Audi rims a little fiddling is required to have them look like VW.

With a 215/55/r16 the desired ride comfort and less reaction to road condition changes, they'll probably suit me. Tyres too will be comparably cheaper than the Pirelli P-Zero on the 18"s.

                      Cheers,
                      Richard

The Audi logo just pushes out from the back, as does the silver ring. You can then put a VW decal onto the "five-armed" mini-hubcap.

You won't find a VW centre to fit that wheel.

The 1.5mm hole in the cap is to hook a piece of wire in for removal. The decal will cover it. You can make a removal hook out of a wire coathanger. You can then slip the hook inbetween the wheel & the hubcap & it pops out very easily.

Thanks brad, great information, now I understand.
Perhaps if I had the largest centre (OD) VW cap I could machine an alloy sleeve and o-ring groove for retention, blending the VW cap.

Still have this thing for 5 rims.

The Passat comes with a full size rim, all 18 x 8 of it!

                          Cheers,
                          Richard

If you are keen to make something then go for it but for less than $10 you can buy stickers / badges & when they look crap buy new ones. Fitment takes about 1 min. looks factory from any distance greater than 1 metre.

You could buy 2 sets of matching rims - still cheap in 16"

Thanks brad, gotta admit I like the factory look, especially if I can have creative input in some way.
You're right about two sets, it's only the freight to Tassie which can be killer.
Heaps of spare rims for those 'soft boiled egg" parking moments
