im thinking about looking into those big ass tube air conditioners that go above the driverside window,

a friend told me they were AC, however i have no idea what they are! i just think they look cool!

any floating around, and is it really an AC?

Its an aircooled thung !

They are evaporative coolers.

They have a 'wet thing' inside with lots of surface area. The air gets forced in the scoop, evaporates the water from the 'wet thing' which then cools the air quite a lot, which gets blown on your face.

I have seen them on beetles.
