VIC WTB OLD VW BEETLE. but need info

So i'm thinking about selling my OBD2 vr6 and buying a beetle always liked them but never really had the funds.

But i see so many different types and prices!! some on gumtree have fully rebuild engines asking 3K and some dont have engines and are like 8k... so im guessing there is something to do with the models and years and rarity.

I was wondering if i could ask everyone the details of most models and how much i should be looking at paying...

i'll be able to afford a bug around the 3.5-4k mark.

so i dont want to jump straight into it buy a 2k bug and then want a different model the next week!

Mainly i want the car to be mechanically 'good'...(good england...)

If you can be bothered add me some info or sites or a different thread.. anything will help. Im in the middle of exams and will be looking to buy around mid july

you will be paying more for earlier models as a general rule of thumb. there's plenty to know and im happy to answer questions if i know anything, if you start on avd that can be a good start but don't get caught up in the fibreglass!

yeh i think at the moment im leaning towards 58-67. But ill look into it more after my exams!

i'd honestly suggest a 68 on model.. Better suspension setup. Ball joint components vs King and linkpin. better headlights etc.. easier for parts etc etc..

I've got a couple of each model and although the earlier ones may look a little cooler.. there isnt much work in making the newer appear the same as the earlier models.. All guards are interchangable.. giving you the smaller tail lights and headlights etc.

68 > models are cheaper too

please do not get a 68 and put early guards on!

king and link pin is fine, i drove daily on a 4.5" narrowed link pin beam.

you can upgrade the head lights on an early bug with sealed beams (like mine)

Was the flash thing as on the side of surfpigs a spefic thing to a certain model or whats all that about?

its a aussie only trim kit, came out as an aftermarket extra.

o.g ones are hard to find, this one is a repro which are still quite expensive.
