Milltek or similar exhaust system and a ECU tune.

Any recommendations would be very appreciated.

Had first hand experience with an APR Stage 2+ Golf R with APR's new RSC system.
It one word...... amazing. It's quiet when needed and loud enough on the GO pedal.

It's super smooth and bloody quick.

I heard my very first miltek system on an ED35 only a few weeks ago. I could not even stand outside the car it's that boomy, it's unbelievable.
Can't understand how anyone can live with that. Today's day and age, technology is advanced enough that this should not happen.
I cannot offer any advice on a miltek system for a Golf R I'm afraid.

Don't know who does APR in NSW, but you will not be disappointed that's for certain, even in Stage 1.
