Just wondering if anyone had a replacement gasket set for a 1.8t agu, otherwise a part number would be great (tried google dont really know what on looking for...)
Found oil in cylinder closest to the drivers side when changing the plugs last week... Also took it as a chance to paint the valve cover. Also heard that the gasket is reusable but thought I'd change it just incase. Also all the DIYs say different things in regards to sealant (using it or not/if so where to put it...) as well as the gasket kits I've found being different to the ones that need changing (just need to change the circular rubber ones around the plugs and the big square rubber one - never seen a DIY using Volkswagen Golf IV 1.8T > Engine > Gaskets > ES#277551 Cylinder Head Gasket - 058103383Q :/

Have you done a compression check? Was the sparkplug wet with oil? I think you'd have other problems if the gasket was gone.
Spark plug would've been wet on the porcelain due to a leaking rocker cover o-ring.
As far as sealant is concerned, black Three-Bond sealant will be fine. You only need to put it in the corners where the gasket goes over the 'humps' where the cams are.

it is possible to take the cover off to check it and then put it back on with(or without..?) sealant?
