Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I am in need of a full front headlight assembly including covers, the ones i have on my new GTI look horrible. If possible the xenon would be great If anyone has a second hand headlight set for sale or knows where i can pick one up for a decent price it would be awesome.

    Thanks in advance.

Legally, xenons need the washers which I'm assuming you don't have. TM tuning have these xenons which are made by Hella, the same as genuine items. Xenon-Look HALOGEN H7 headlights
I have them and they are fine and half the price of genuine headlights from a VW dealer. I'm guessing yours have ended up looking like they've been sanded?

If they are just yellowed / glazed over, it is possible to restore them relatively easily - you can buy kits from Autobarn (and I'd assume the others too). Our sponsor CCP sells a nice one: Car Care Products / Flitz / Car Accessories / Buffing Pads / Headlight Restoration Kit
For xenon's, unless you find a wreck that has them and a wrecker with no idea what they are worth, you are looking at well over $1k for a kit - saw a new set for sale recently for about $2k, and they still weren't legal (no levelling motors, no washers).
I have a set of covers if you want to buy them - prefer the car without them (headlight and bonnet)

Today is the last day of TM tuning's Easter sale, so it'd be a good time to get these. You'd get $100 off a set of headlights.

Thanks for the quick replies. Yeah they have ended up looking horrible, it drags down the look of the car like you wouldn't believe, well in my opinion anyway. I have tried a headlight restore kit, it looked a little better, but by no means the clean look i am inevitably going for.

With the Hella ones from there, does it play at all with the codes so you get a light on the dash? And do they still work with the auto on and off? I see it says plug and play, but that's not always so reliable, information from someone with experience would be good to hear?

Yep. They work perfectly. I've had them for a couple of years.
