Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • QLD EOI/WTB - MK2 Golf Power Steering Components

    Hello,

Interested in buying parts to convert a non power steering MK2 Golf to power steering.

    IIRC I'll need,

    -PS pump
    -PS rack
    -PS lines/reservoir
-Uni joint for the steering rack
    -Boot for uni-joint
-Tie rods (new tie rod ends?)
    -Tie rods boots
    - New belt/PS rack bush (?)

    (various bracketry and bolts too?)
MK2 - *Insert list of dealer purchased extra's/standard features here*
80 series - The MK2's BIG, Sooty, polar opposite...

PM Russ83. He has a PAS setup but wants to go manual steering.

Did you manage to get the dimensions of the rear engine mount rubber?

Can't really help with parts, but I can say its a very worthwhile upgrade. My car was non PAS and I upgraded from a crashed Aussie car and have loved it ever since.
      Goodluck with finding the parts.

If he plans on tracking the car, that seems like a strange thing for him to sell.
Not 100% sure what you mean about the mount, I just had the entire thing replaced with a new hyrdo mount.

Your input (and others) on this matter a few times is what has pushed me to go for it.
No PS also limits your choice in wheels/tires too (unless you're tarzan)

GolfLoon did the conversion for me a year ago, he used SEAT parts IIRC which are 10 years younger and better. Call him to see if he has the right gear for you, and ya that's the best money that I spent on my Mk2

Less to go wrong with manual steering, less parasitic loss from the extra pulley and better feedback. More tiring if you do endurance races, but track cars- Negligible!

Thank you for the offer, but I've already sourced the parts from a fellow forum member.
