  • QLD Wanted: 16V or similar for a mk2

    Hey all,

Figured I would start looking now, as I'm not sure how many 16v's will pop up this year. Basically looking for one in reasonable shape, so let me know what you have available, or will have available in the next 6 months.

The plan is to buy it and build it up to go in later on.

    Thanks

How are you looking at going with fuelling it? Carbs, EFI (Digifant) or Standalone EFI management?

I am in the midst of working out what I am going to do with my 16v, which is a straight bolt up to a Digifant car. I have been considering the installation of it in my white MK1, but am unsure if that is the path I want to tread as yet.

Anyhow, more information and I am sure something will turn up.

Probably digi I think, however open to suggestions as to what will get me the best running car in the long run.

Yeah, I was hoping to spend more like $1.5-2k, not $9k I could buy the 16v and get it all in and set up and perfect for $9k I am hoping.

You could go a 2.0L 8v route too.
Relativly straight swap and a little headwork would do wonders.

Wouldnt have the power of a 16v, but 2.0L 8v's are plentiful and (very) cheap, saw one advertised for less than $200 in classifieds.

          Congrats on your 1000th post

I don't mind what type of engine to be honest, I'm more chasing a power figure that will give me say a 7.5-8 second 0-100 time. What would that be in a 1 ton car, like 85-90kw at the wheels?

              Those figures sound spot on.

              A (proper) euro 1.8L 8v can do 0-100 in around 9 secs (110hp)
              A 1.8L 16v (KR) can do 0-100 in less than 8 secs (139hp)

              Standard 2.0L 8v makes 115hp.

Golfwagen here in Perth are offloading heaps of 1.8 and 2l 8 valves for dirt cheap, they got other stuff to so might be worth a look in
