WTB Black 17's for my mark 3 vr6 (preferably similar to the original style)
Jump on the subie forums/ebay and look for Liberty B4 wheels. 17x7.5 ET38 I think. The centrebore is differnt so you'll need rings or machine the centre of the wheels.

Be careful of Subarus fail offsets, I'd be going for lower +30's in a 7.5" wide, and that's still somewhat conservative, mine atm are 7.5" wide at ET + 35 and I'd go a bit more aggrssive if I wasn't a pov uni crum. Also, a test fit (needless to say) is ideal, or something you know has come off a VW (with decent sized brakes), I found the brakes are quite fat, and even Audi replics needed to be modified to clear (brake pad carrier was rubbing ).
Audi TT wheels are a safe-ish bet if you're not too concerned about being too baller, just be sure they're the older TT style (5X100 not the newer 5X112).
If you're lowered in the back and have some width you'll need a guard roll, otherwise tyres will scrub, no biggie, just something else to keep in mind. Alternatively if it's not lowered 17"s might look awkward.
Be careful with tyre size, 205s on a 7.5 give a tiny bit of stretch and look ok (but careful of stretch as first point of contact with anything is the lip of the wheel not that nice spungy tyre).
Keep us up to date with what you go with, I personally think the right 17's are perfect for the Mk3.
I have TT 17x7.5 ET32 with a 205/40 on them. They are are very nice "normal fit" for the Mk3. Am running late model VR brake setup though (288s) because I needed them from my BBS (wheel hitting caliper).
Check my thread for pics. Last page or something.
Use a wheel offset calculator (google) to see where the specs of the subie wheels sit etc...and test fit if possible before handing over cash.
Thanks for your input guys, it's much appreciated, will check it out, and it's already been lowered on bilstein coil overs all around, so they wouldn't look that out of place, i'll have a look round, if all else fails i'll just powder coat my original 16's
cheers mate, will keep that in mind mine look like they might need refurbishing before painting though there's a bit of gutter rash on a couple of them
