I have 2 camshafts here. One came out of an Australian delivered Mk 2 GTI and the other came out of a 1.8 GTI engine that was in a Mk 1 that I used to own. Both were replaced by higher spec cams and are in good condition. I am not sure if they are 'G' grind though. I don't have much need for either. Let me know if you are interested. Postage to Sydney might be a bit though as they are fairly heavy obviously.

MK1 GTI motors aren't hydraulic unless it was a later Cabby. Not sure if the Aussie spec cam is a soft one to go with the CAT. I reckon Golfloon would know.
I think the spams called teh Euro MK1 GTI cam the G grind, as they had something soft fitted in their 90 horse GTIs.

Just to clarify. The cam that I have is from a 1.8 GTI engine that had been put into an Aussie Mk 1. It is definitely a hydraulic cam and is probably a better cam than the Oz delivered 1.8 GTI as I believe the Oz GTI were a bit soft as you say Gav.

what would you be chasing for the mk2 gti cam?

from what i understand if it a g-grind it will have "G" stamped on the cam

Yah - the "G grind cam does have G on it, up near the sprocket end.

I have one... in an engine at the moment. good cam. 1.8 RV makes 95hp ATW with a 40mm DHLA.

I'd rather sell the whole engine than just the cam though
