Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Any body got a close ratio 020 box, dead or alive they'd like to part with?

I'm after another spare on so I can finally get my Peloquin installed.

Ideally I'd like a box with one of the following codes, 2H or 4K to get the 3.94 FDR.

but I could also use any of the other close ratio boxes too. (FM FD FK 7G 4Y 9A ACD AEN AGB 2Y)

I'd even be interested in late MK3 boxes (CHB ) if they're cheap enough because the casing allows a bit more room for the diff and doesn't need to be clearanced.

    While I'm asking..

    • 5 Speed gear linkage bits, particularly the lever on the box selector shaft.
    • 5 Speed gearbox mount.
    • 3.94 ring and pinion for 020
    • VW Motor Sport Gemini dog box (just dreaming)

Thats why it has never exploded! That is the TDI box out of a 1994 TD G3. Great ratios Pete and strong as hell.

You will need different linkages for a Mk1 Pete. I`d buy a new kit off the net, short shifter one if you fancy it.

At least its all new Gear. Mk3 linkages are not right for the Mk1 shifter.

Not the ratios I'm after though Matt, this is going to be another track box really want the 2.12 second and the 3.94 Final Drive ratio.

My other box is a 4K built into a CHB case with a Wavetrac diff. Gets me the right ratios in a strong case.

My last CHB came out of a Cordoba I wrecked.

Yeah sorry, CHB is Mk2 / 3 1.8L box. the CHD is the 1.9TDI one.
The Golf 2/ Cordy box has the right input shaft for your Mk1 clutch, on the plus side.

The 020 box, what is the going price? And secondly will this bolt onto the 1.8T in the Polo GTI?

Depends on the 020 but I'm flogging mine for 400 with everything Inc upgraded clutch. It does bolt to a 1.8t but not sure about the polo. Better of going for an 02a or j if u can
