Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Is it a vac operated one or electric aftermarket? Got loads of electric ones from my fitting days.

The pipe isn't split is it? I will stick my neck out and say the only probs I have ever seen with vac CL has been brunt out pumps due to leaky pipes.

It stopped working a while ago when the car sat around at my old place and filled with water. I emptied and dried it out and it worked again for sometime. Now its crapped itself, made a lot of noise earlier and now wont lock/unlock the other doors

Are you using a key or alarm to unlock and lock it?

I disagree about fitting electric. It's been done to my Toledo and they didn't do the boot. Major PIA. Would have been easy to fix the Vac system and interface the old alarm to that.

Leave the unit out Lorenz, maybe in the sun or something to dry it up. Spray some WD40 into the connections on wire and locking motor, and see how you go.

Mine crapped itself because the panelbeater who ''fixed'' my car couldn't put a genuine rear quarter panel on straight, so the taillight leaked lol. I've sinced fixed the leak and I managed to prolong the life of my old central locking motor by doing the above. It's worth a shot!
