Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Brake rotors/pads & your advice (288mm or 312mm)

    Hi,
Faced with requiring new rotors and pads for a MkV Jetta (either standard or GTI size w. larger claipers etc) I just noticed ECS had a special on larger 312mm rotors with an adaptor carrier for the standard calipers/pads.

    Good so far.

USD $199 on sale. However add $178 for shipping!

    Does this sound right?

What alternatives are worth considering? Maybe I should just buy GTI calipers and new HPS+ pads/aftermarket rotors to suit?

Do people herebuy a pad/rotor combo from the states or can local specialists have a compeitive offering for front brake rotors/pads?

    Chers,

Here is the link to the ECS page selling the 312mm rotors (Gernan; Schwengen, plain) & adaptors to allow bolt-up on standard MkV Jetta, Golf etc.

No pad change or brake bleeding, they say, just unbolt, rebolt!

OE style 312mm Big Brake Upgrade $199

I've not seen it discussed much online. May be useful for other Jetta owners with spoked wheels, for just appearance or maybe slightly better fade resistance.

Anyone have a good condition, OEM GTI front brake set on offer, complete with pads, for an attractive price?

If it gets too hard to buy a GTI set, then this ECS set is at least a cosmetic upgrade.
