Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Headphones (I have too many)

Along with being a VW enthusiast, I have a passion for audio gear. I need to part with some of my acquired toys...
All of the units are lightly used, never played loud (not how I listen) and have less than 200 hours.

Most of these headphones have been lightly modified (improved IMO), buy alterations to the can (rear structure), internal damping material (stuff to stop reverberation and sound reflections) or padding (improve fit and feel to ear / head). I cant guarantee that you will prefer them to the stock version, but most of the alterations are not unusual and can be viewed on forums like Head-fi. PM me for details.

All of these headphones are closed design (not opened back, don't spill audio as easily, block out external sounds better)

    Sennheiser HD228 $30

Brainwavz HM5 (also known as the Fischer Audio FA-003) $80 (lowered)

Superlux 662 (Also known as the CAD MH310's) $30 (lowered)

*SOLD* Philips O'Neill The Stretch $25

    Added: Soundmagic M30 IEM's $30

    Added: Beyer DT770 80ohm cans $150

All prices are pickup, can post at cost, details below. I have done a fair amount of trading through VWW and consider myself an upstanding citizen in this regard (others can vouch).

PM me for any details on a particular model, etc. Auditions more than welcome, I'm happy to send to you for evaluation if you cover the freight and potential return freight.
I'm happy for anyone to add feedback on pricing, love or dislike of a particular model in this thread.

    Sennheiser HD228 (black)

These are portable headphones i bought about 1 year ago. Although they sell for upto $110, they can be had <$50 and thats likely what I paid for them.

Sound good, but didn't fit my needs.

For over 75 years, our products come with a built-in mission: to stay true to the sound and soul the music was given by its artist.

    Not sold with any accessories.

Some additional damping material and modification to the foam to improve fit / sound, recabled as the original cable was average.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

    Brainwavz HM5 - Normally $140 delivered from MP4 Nation.

These are made by a company called yoga who only sells them to be fitted with earpads, cables, etc and are then sold under a number of brands. The HM5 has very comfortable earpads, sounds excellent and although large, can be driven by an iphone, etc.

I love these, don't really want to give them up, but need to make space in my collection for a new premium set of cans.
< 1 month old, they come with a case. Cables are removable, replacement pads can be bought cheaply (which is great, they're nice and comfy) Read the reviews, there are lots.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Superlux 662 (Also known as the CAD MH310's) seem to go for $60-110.

We received this shipment last week in addition to the HD668B that we have reviewed, but we haven’t had the time to touch them...

They sound fantastic for the money, can be driven from an iphone.

1 of the earpads has a small burn mark (cigarette or something), not large, not bad, woudn't notice, certainly does not affect sound.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Soundmagic M30 IEM's

These little IEM (in ear monitors) are cheap, a little on the plastic side, but produce a great sound. Blah blah blah, competes with IEMs that cost around $100, blah blah. There are constant comparisons between quality cheap earphones and expensive ones, IMO, these do the job better than some of my earphones that retail for $130 (didn't pay that much).

They are an over-the-ear design which some like, some don.t come with standard tips (the soft bit that goes in your ear)
Great for public transport, work well with iphones, etc.

    photos to come

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Beyer DT770 80ohm cans

These are cans. When I say cans, they're fairly big, not very portable and have a big sound. The 80ohm version is known for being bass heavy.

Currently these have been recabled as the stock cable is tiny. Photos will help explain their current state. They don't sound great from a laptop or ipod / iphone even with their moderate impedance, they really need an amp. Closed design, isolate well.

    Photos to come.
