Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Canon EOS 1100D.

Can be had for around $400, with a single lens. (18-55mm)
Nice piece of kit for the price - a mate of mine just got one.

When you compare it to a more expensive one, for example my 500D, then you can tell its the el-cheapo model but it takes a nice photo nonetheless.

Just be aware that if you buy most cameras from overseas you will have to either send it back for any warranty issues or pay for it here.

I have a Sony HD Camcorder bought in New York that developed a fault Sony AU didnt want to know and cost me $188 to get it fixed.

Had only been used for 6 weeks.

              Be warned

With Techrific, that price is excluding postage (add the camera to cart, ends up being $5##)

I'd be searching for another place to buy from, maybe go straight to kogan?

Kogan prices do not include postage, but it's only $30 for most of Australia so that makes an 1100D under $450 with postage.

I bought a 60D from Kogan and was very happy with the speed of the delivery

As far as warranty is concerned with Kogan they don't really state where the item will be sent to (my guess is back to Hong Kong) but Kogan will pay the shipping costs.

One thing I have heard about some of the dodgy Hong Kong based sellers is they have a fine print clause that says if you send back an item to be repaired and it turns out to not be in need of repair you forfeit the device. I have heard horror stories of people sending a $2000 camera back only to be told "there is nothing wrong with it so as per our terms and conditions we are now keeping it, and no you don't get your money back". My guess is that a company that does dodgy things like charge sneaky $100+ "delivery fees" is also likely to be doing other dodgy things too.
