Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Vintage Lever Espresso Machine - Gaggia Visacrem 2 group

Just a long shot in case theres any vintage espresso machine lovers here... Excuse the copy paste from another forum i've listed it on:

So its with sadness that I let this machine go... a two group lever is just not something i can have in my small apartment kitchen, living with two other people, despite having always said that it would be my absolute ultimate machine

    So here's the story:

    - Both groups rebuilt by Sydney Espresso Services in Brookvale (disassembled, seals and spring replaced, regreased)
    - 14L Boiler
    - Built in '82
    - 2500w element
    - Almost perfect condition, just a couple of small cosmetic imperfections, and absolutely perfect condition mechanically (check out the boiler photo!!)
    - For the purchaser only, i'm willing to take apart the groups to show you that they have in fact been rebuilt, and that the bores are flawless.

I encourage anyone interested to come around and have a play with it, i'll leave it plumbed and plugged in for another week or so. If not sold here, it will go on ebay for the same amount. If not sold on eBay, it will go into my garage until i move to a bigger place.

This would really ad a unique aspect to a cafe and make it stand out from the endless la marzoccos and wegas around. Its quite a novelty watching a barista on a commercial lever

Ideally i'd like to sell it locally for two reasons: I want the buyer to come and look at it first so they know what they're getting and secondly, i'd rather not ship it to avoid damage. However, if it isn't sold locally, i will throw it out to the interstaters and for shipping i will take the group levers off, and build a shipping crate for it as i would be very sad if it got damaged.

Inspection/Pickup is from Northbridge, NSW (near North Sydney)

    Price is $3800

I LOVE Gaggias of all sorts but my other half would really lose it if I brought one of these home

Good luck with it whether you sell it or keep it

Wow! Dig it. Maybe when I stop spending on the car and house I'll have the cash for something like this.

      Good luck

It's a stupid forum run by a dictator beholden to his sponsors.

damn, i love a good coffee, love my grinder, would love one of those too but will have to stick with my generic american machine with the seals singing and the temp fluctuating.

                    good luck.

-yeah, that rule sounds pretty Ghay-

Haha forum Nazis, they get all the girls.

Will show this to a mate with a nichey sort of cafe, but probably too hard to deal with old-school equiptment in a commercial environment.

                      Looks pimp though.

You could kill the normal PBTC that works at most cafes with one of these (the return springs are damned strong) and the whole training/speed thing is another issue as you said.
As a 2nd machine in a poncy, boutique cafe (the sort I frequent) it'd rock. I'm still waiting for a mate of mine to set up a Faema E61 lever in his cafe (been sitting around in his storage for a couple of years now)

Too bad you aren't in Melbourne - I'm sure I could swap you a nice Imat Junior that I just refurbished for some of your Pog/Pod gear. Do you ever get beans from Campos?

Yeah these are definitely slower than you're standard pump driven machine, you'd need at least 4 lever groups to service a busy-ish cafe. Having a lever machine would be very cool though, i've only ever been to one cafe that uses one as their main machine. Having this as the working show piece and have a standard 2 group as well would be the way to go as mentioned.

Then there's the barista issue, you certainly don't want some wally just ****ing around on it, as he could break himself and/or the machine. However, its not much harder to make an exceptional coffee on this machine than it is on any other, but it is easier to make a complete mess of a coffee
