  • NSW Sooty is dead and whole car for sale Mk3 Golf TDI

Advertising on behalf of my Cousin.

    So my TDI is dead.
Thats what happens when you run out of diesel and crank and crank and crack. Fuel pump detonated and mechanic says injectors blocked with glitter.

Selling as WHOLE car only... you can use parts up, replace the engine or part it.

Car is straight. a few dings in bumpers, a tiny ding in top LHS fender.
Clear coat is flaking off on bonnet, roof, side protection strips, side mirrors etc.

If you need any more info just ask me.
I don't own the car anymore - my cousin does - I'm advertising it here for him.
    Car located Pennant Hill NSW
    Unregistered.

    $1000

Specks on the car and what it has.
    --------------------------
    1996 VW Golf TDI Mk3 - RED

This car is Modified and is Not Stock! (but can be returned to stock as I have most of the original parts)

    1996 Golf Mk3 (1st Registered March 1997)
    1.9L TDI 1Z engine
    5 door
    5 speed Manual
    Colour: Red
    23x,xxx km

Fog Lights, AirCon and Cruise Control.

I service the car religiously - Oil changed every 5,000km

Timing belt was done about 40,000 km ago.
Dec 2012, New Tensioner fitted (Wolfburg motors said Timing Belt still looks like new), New MAF and Glow Plugs fitted.
Metal impeller Water Pumps have been fitted with all Timing belt changes.

Stock engine is 66kW - Mainline Dyno: 47.6kW at the wheels ~220NM torque at the front wheels.
Current configuration Mainline Dyno: 80kw and 300NM at the front wheels.
Yet it still returns around 850km in town and upto 1100-1200km on the highway.

    Brakes:
Rear Beam and Disc Brake upgrade from standard Drums. I upgraded to a GL Rear Beam which has a torsion bar where as the original did not.
Rear beam was stripped of parts and painted with Kill Rust Black before fitting.
Front Brakes were upgraded to New Mk3 Vr6 Calipers and carriers with 280mm 4x100 Corrado Ventilated Discs. Uses Standard VR6 280mm Brake Pads.
Front and Rear calipers were painted Red with High temp paint while off the car.

    Suspension:
Front: Koni Yellow adjustable shocks and Eibach Sports Springs (lowering 35mm)
Rear: Koni Yellow adjustable shocks and Standard Springs - stock height at rear (Eibach Rear Springs still in Box)

    Engine:
    Oil-Air Separator fitted.
Injector Nozzles: Bosio PowerPlus520 (purchased from KermaTDI)
ECU: Upsolute Chip to suit PP520 nozzles - original ECU chips available.
Intake: Upgraded to free flowing PD130 (PD150) Intake with Allard Race Pipe and Silicon elbows connecting to standard intercooler pipes
Most cloth hoses upgraded to Silicon Hose including the Boost Hose in the ECU itself.
Boostvalve.com Boost controller set up as Boost Spike Control with N75 (standard daily setup) OR as N75 Replacement (warning: advanced use only) with the twist of 2 inline taps.`Leave it with taps ON and running as standard daily mode.

    Gearbox:
Original Clutch replaced at 180,000km - Engine mounts also replaced at the same time
Replaced with an higher spec OEM clutch
Gearbox was also stripped, checked and rebuilt with new syncros and bearings - nothing was wrong, but did it as precaution while gearbox was out.
    Redline MT90 gearbox oil used.

    Exhaust:
Mufflerectomy performed. 2.5in Stainless Steel straight through pipes with rear dump, removing the suitcase and rear mufflers.
Nice sounds and is not loud. Mufflerectomy alone gained 14kW at the wheels.

    Interior:
    Tinted windows
    Original seats
Metal Chrome door opening levers. Stocks were plastic.
Steering wheel has an Issota Leather cover and I did it with Red double Stitching.
Heavy Duty Rubber/Carpet Floor mats installed when I got the car so original carpets are like new.
I replaced the sagging Headliner with Blue material using suitable high temp strength 3M spray glue.
I handmade a cream suede gear gaiter to replace the torn rubber one.
Autometer C2 Electronic 0-30 PSI Boost gauge - with hidden dimmer control under steering wheel inside gap.
Euro Light switch with F/R Fog and headlight height adjustment rheostat
I added factory OEM Cruise Control. this was a $1800 factory option.

    ICE:
High end Clarion Tape Deck (it does supports remote 6 Disc CD Stacker, control cable is installed to boot, but stacker not currently installed but can supply)
    Stock Front Speakers only.
I removed my High end 10+1 speaker sound system, but left the 2 Gauge power wire from engine bay to under rear seat (it is disconnected from Battery).

    Exterior:
Front Doors have VW slim Weather shields
Hella Celis Projector headlights (Glass lenses) - Low beam fitted with H7 HID's, glass lenses protected with LiteSkins stone chip protection.
OEM Front Fog lights fitted (projector lenses), front Fogs, Blinkers and Reflector protected with LiteSkins
I modified the Rear Tail lights to have the dual Rear Fogs.
    Mud flaps all round.
    Small Bee Sting antenna.

    Wheels:
    Momo Ideas 15x7 4x100

    Tyres:
2x Kumo Esata HU31 on Front - Brand new < 1000 km - I have put 55 series tyres on. these are larger than stock 50 series. 55 mean the speedo is more accurate due to tall gearing. This means you loose a little bit of acceleration but gain lower rpm when cruising highway = better fuel economy.
    2x Bridgstone RE002 on Rear,Tread 40-50% (50 series)

The engine DID run like a sewing machine.
Engine and Turbo are still very very strong. Does not blow any black clouds of smoke when accelerating.
    Interior is in great condition.
Air Con and heater work fine.
Drivers carpets and heal protection pad are like new as I have always used floor mats.
    Dash perfect no cracks.
Brand new windscreen 2012 - stone chip cracked the original.
Brand new rain trays installed 2012.
    Straight body.
Has had a Bonnet Shield/Protector on 99% of it's life.

Only recently replaced (<10000 km ago):
Due to a diesel leak in from VE Pump head, I replaced the injector pump head top and bottom gasket seals, internal fuel temp sensor and the pump head seal (Viton o-ring) and re-set the quality injection and Fuel timing to factory timing specifications.
While I had all the injector lines removed, I replaced the lower Y radiator hose on the water pump and block - a difficult job but nearly impossible otherwise.
I also recently replaced the radiator hose triple housing at top of block and temp sensor, as I was leaking coolant due to a hairline crack - common issue but original based 229,000km.
When getting 2x new front tyres (<1000km ago) (old tyres had very little tread left but they were wearing on the inside due to alignment issues) I was told the lower A-arm rubber bushings were worn and reason the tyres wearing unevenly as wheel alignment not working. Replaced with brand new A-arms that included new rubber bushings.

    Replaced <5000km ago:
Key was hard to turn and I had to replace Ignition switch behind key barrel. PITA of a job!

And now the not so good:
In last few years all the foam sealing the air vents had deteriorated and been blowing out of the vents. This means that the heater box heat diverting flap has also lost its foam and now cannot direct hot air correctly when you turn up the heat dial. It can be repaired.
Clear coat on bonnet about 60% gone (Paint is fine) - many many highway km to the farm.
Bonnet Protector has protected the front edge very very well, but the rest got sand blasted from highway km’s and thinned out
Also Clear coat issues on roof, on Passenger door bump strips and on the side view mirrors and other parts around the car.
2 circle dents in metal trim above front bumper when spotlights were knocked backwards.
Bumper scrapes from inconsiderate shoppers in car parks.

    The usual age related wrinkles:
Stone chips on Side mirrors also clear coat chipping off.
Stone chips on Front area of car
Small 5mm dint on top passenger side front fender

Nothing wrong with engine - but the fuel system needs replacing - pump, lines, injectors, filter, hard lines maybe even tank depending on metal glitter penetration.
