I have an MY14 Jetta that came with the RCD310. Would it be a simple case of swapping the RCD510 in, and it's all good, or will it need to have coding done via VAGCOM.
All I actually want is to be able to control my music (on my iPhone) via the steering wheel through BT, but I gather that can't happen, even with the RCD510, so maybe the SD card option is viable?
The RCD510 is plug and play, I had this working fine in my old MKV RCD310 equipped Golf as a test, but never ran it as I sold the car shortly afterwards. The bluetooth module is a separate part, and is mainly used for the phone. The steering wheel buttons will hardwire to the 510, so if your phone comes up as an aux drive, then I guess it would be controllable. I have not personally done this to be able to comment though.
Running a SD card via the steering wheel is very doable.
