Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • SOLD KR 16v Race head

    SOLD

    Hi guys,

Looking to move on this "race" head that I purchased off another forum member some time ago. I bought it to adapt onto my ABF but in the end i've had my standard ABF head lightly worked on.

The head was originally imported from the UK from an engineer who prepped engines for VW race cars (Not sure on which discipline). I couldn't be told what was exactly done but it definitely looks bored/rechanneled and comes with factory KR cams.

Turn your 8v into a 16v or amp up your stock 16v.

Not sure on their worth, especially over here? Can't be many 16v heads milling around? Can't remember what I paid but I guess i'd be looking at offers around the $1200 mark.. Hit me up either way, keen to see it get used

    Cheers

    Alex

Interesting, I was wondering if you could share any specs on it?

      Valve sizes?
      Mechanical or Hydraulic lifters?
      Combustion chamber volume?
      Are the bearing saddles included?

I've got two 16v heads in the shop at the moment, this might do as a spare.

Like I said I can't be sure of much since the seller I bought it off couldn't tell me

        But in saying that;

-Valves look to be standard size with my non-caliper measurements, 32/28, however not sure if the stems have been played with.
-Going to assume hydraulic? Is there a way of telling without removing them?
-From memory you use a syringe to squirt in water yeh? I don't really have the equipement, sorry Pete.
-You mean the cam caps? yep

two out of four answered, haha, sorry it's so vague

I've got two heads in the shop being repaired now. I'll have to see if there's any change left over when they're done.
