VIC Golf GTI Edition 30 Steering Wheel - fits all modern VWs

I'm selling my Golf GTI Edition 30 steering wheel, as it looks like I won't have time to fit it before selling the Polo and our next car will most probably be a B7 A4 Avant so rather than holding on in case I do get another VW any time soon, it's up for grabs.

It was sold in Europe only and differs to the stock GTI steering wheel - I believe it's basically a MK5 R32 wheel with red stitching and a GTI badge. It doesn't have multi-function but I assume anyone with any automotive knowledge could easily retrofit this - it's also without paddle shifters - perfect for a 9N3 GTI. It uses the same airbag as the MK5 Golf (assuming Jetta too) and 9N3 GTI. It does not include the air bag - you would have to use your existing one.

So basically, it's a pretty rare find overseas, they get snapped up pretty quick when edition 30's get wrecked and also with the dollar getting weaker they're getting even more expensive.

$600 AUD Shipped. No offers at this stage - I paid this without the shipping costs from Europe. Condition 8/10 - no heavy wear, no rips. slight wear marks in small areas and slight imprints in leather from storage which may lift with time. The wear looks so much worse in the pictures!!!!

so you sold a completely different steering wheel which comes stock on one of the most common hot hatches sold in Australia - this is a limited edition model, imported from Europe where even there it is pretty rare to find one. And the condition is very good, the photographs highlight 2 small areas of light wear.

No, It's a completely different shape, (it has grooves and is flat bottom) to the GTI one - it is the same shape as the R32 wheel but a different design - it has the red stitching.

I think dubster is missing the point completely - there are 2, maybe 3 of these wheels in Australia and they are hard to find overseas - if I sold it for the same price as a stock wheel then I'd be a complete idiot and selling it at a major loss. This is an upgrade over the GTI wheels and a huge upgrade for Polo 9N3 owners who are my target audience - they drive a stick and have no 'buttons' so this would suit them.

It's this kind of attitude to Volkswagens designs and unbelievably penny pinching that sees you (the Australian market) miss out on epic cars like the Edition 30 - 'oh just a little bit of cotton' - no it's a completely different product to what everyone else in Australia has - end of.

Incorrect. I have an edition 30 wheel with MF buttons and paddles, the buttons are easy to replace. i helped install one of these in BFLAT's polo, which uses no MF buttons.

That awkward moment when you are in fact right. I was convinced it was just the R32 with flat bottom. I own a Polo, not a MK5.

And I'd go with what Mitch says regarding the buttons, if he's actually done the job then I'd take his word for it. I'm pretty sure the buttons would just swap over from wheel to wheel.

Look if no one wants it - I'll take it back to the UK and get $500 for it - I put it up for sale in Aus with postage included for $600 which I thought was pretty fair as there are only a couple of these here. If no one wants it then back to Europe it goes. Simples.

So where do you screw the buttons into the wheel? I replaced the buttons on my R32 wheel (with newer buttons) and there were screw holes, plus places to run the ribbon cables from those buttons which aren't on this wheel.

Btw, I'm not having a go at the original poster, it's a nice wheel, just wanted to know the difference from a standard GTI/R32 wheel.

Beneath the plastic covers where the MF buttons sit, its identical to every other MK5 wheel with MF Buttons. He's just replaced the MF Buttons with a cover from another wheel due to them being redundant on a Polo


.... after examining a spare MK5 R32 wheel, above statement is partly incorrect. the pictures above do not show screw holes for MF buttons to be mounted. Both Edition 30 wheels i have installed have been true to previous comment
