  • NSW Genuine Ross-Tech Micro-CAN VAGCOM cable

Genuine Ross-Tech Micro-CAN VAGCOM cable (obviously - genuine works with VCDS)

Had it for a few years, used it maybe 10 times?

Works on quite a range of cars - Compatibility here:

    Ross-Tech: Micro-CAN Interface

Pretty sure I got it from dubaddiction:

VCDS (VAGCOM Diagnostic System) License with Micro-CAN Interface - $299.00 : Dub Ad·dic·tion [duhb uh-dik-shuhn]

Is/was $299 from there - Will post it to your door (australia post) for $220.

Can give you a slight discount if you are in Sydney City and can meet around Erskine St...

Just a heads up, Ross-Tech ask that 2nd owners re-register the cable with them ($99) to make it work, not sure if there's a workaround, but maybe keep that in mind..

Work-around is that if/when you buy a new VCDS cable you don't register it until you need support. That way you can on-sell it with the support still available for the second user if you never needed to use it.

Not sure if you can even do this or if the software forces you to register a new cable.

Also not sure how you check if a cable has already been registered without contacting Ross-tech. Also it's pretty hard to prove that a cable still has it's support contract available.

As long as the email address names aren't radically different I guess - might be a case of creating a new one specifically for that purpose ...

Hmm... So when would I have used my email address? When I first installed it? I think I have reinstalled it a few times without issue... I'll have a look tonight! I don't remember using my email address ever...

OK, I checked tonight and i'm pretty sure i've never registered it for technical support. (cable auto-registers the software when you first use it - as far as I know it doesn't require anything else, i've used it on cars other than mine too!) I've certainly never used the technical support! I have no emails from them indicating my registration, etc... I've installed the software on more than 1 PC and used the same cable with no problems... So, I can't guarantee that if you need support ross-tech will provide it (I don't know how long it is valid for!), but i've definitely never used it. I got it from dubaddiction for $319 originally.

If you purchase from a local supplier it comes with a blue registration certificate that directs you to a website to register.
If you purchase a cable direct from Ross-tech they pre-register the cable for you based on the details you used to purchase it.

So if you never registered it when you purchased originally then it should be free to be registered by the next user.
Having said that the only reason to register it is so you can get tech support.

I did get that with it, I think. No idea where it is though, moved twice since! But you only need the cable serial and the serial from the application itself to register anyway. Easy!
